Giving a meter reading?

I get my duel fuel from southen electric, I get bills 2 times a year but pay by DD.
If i was to give a meter reading 2 months before it is due will i get an updated statement straight away? The reason for me asking is because i owed them £300 but i would like to see what that figure has gone down to without phoning them.
