Switching? Don't pay for units at higher prices
I recently switched gas and electric to a new supplier when Southern Electric put up their prices (effective 1 April). Imagine my surprise when I opened my final bills to find that the whole of my usage from the previous meter reading until the final reading had been averaged out at a constant daily rate. I was outraged.…

Please, please help - advise needed
My wife and I currently pay £672 annually for both our Gas and Elec with Npower (not capped). However with the BBC recently saying prices could go up as much as 40% by the end of this year I am very eager to get on a fixed rate. So if we were to switch to Scottish Power it is estimated the annual bill will be £788 but we…

Electricity standing charges
Having discovered today that the "standing charges" on my electricity bills refer to not the electricity i use but to a storage heating system that was removed from my property in Dec 2001, I am being told that I have no case to obtain a refund because the operators I spoke to on numerous occasions made no notes as to the…

Is our desire for cheaper energy prices driving prices upwards?
I've just had a meter reader call today and got to thinking... When I was a lad and everyone bought their gas off British Gas and their electricity off their respective electricity board, once every three months an appointed meter reader from the respective company would start their day at one end of a street, pen & paper…

No electricity bills received
Hi For the last year at least we have been having our regular meter readings taken but no bills have ever arrived. Whilst we are enjoying not having to pay we are conscious that sooner or later someone somewhere may send us a large bill. We are with BG and I we haven't swapped supplier as we haven't wanted to rock the…

Fixed rate question. Any advice?
Like a lot of people in the light of the inevidable price hikes within the next couple of months, I'm reviewing my tariff. I'm currently on a fixed rate contract with Scottish Power until November this year. Since I've been in this arrangement I've managed to avoid the price increase at the beginning of the year. If I go…

To cap or not to cap?
Hi, Please can anyone offer some help to a very confused energy user! I joined Npower, sign online 8, in December 07. With all the recent doom and gloom in the news about 40% rise in feul prices I feel I should make a decision now rather than later about whether to cap or not. I am paying £99 per month for gas and…

Different results from comparison sites
I'm thinking of switching my gas/elec suppliers, so have been using the comparison sites recommended on this site. However: I seem to be getting massively different results from each comparison site concerning the potential savings - ranging from a saving of £40 through to £200 for the same supplier  I'm careful…

£320 Gas bill in 12 weeks - is this right??
I have just recieved our Gas bill from Npower stating that between 27 Feb 2008 and 28th May 2008 we have used £320.41. Would that be about right in that period? We are a 2/3 bedroom house using Gas to cook on and have a combination boiler.

n power fixed until 2011, just been 'door-knocked'
I've been 'door-knocked' by npower this week and have taken up their fixed 2011 offer. Did look on their website after seeing the deal my friend signed up to - but could only find deals fixed until 2009 on their site. Apparently I was 'chosen' because I used to be an npower customer before (it really was a long time ago).…

New home... capped rates!??!
I've just moved into a new house and it is currently serviced by nPower for both Gas and Electricity. My last place was serviced by eOn. I've called both to see what they can offer and have had the following info: eOn 9% Discount if I get both fuels from them. Fixed till 1st October 2009. Gas - 4.352p per kw for the 1st…

Better Not to Cap at all?
Dear All, I'm on EON Energy Online Extra Saver 5 and despite it's recent rises - it is still relatively cheap. I like others am concerned about the upcoming 40% price rises, and recognize capped deals are always going to be a gamble. However currently my charges are: Electricity Normal units 10.4265 pence per kWh (40%…

Since we moved back into our house in October 06 after a year travelling we have not had an electricity bill. We have both our gas and electricity from British Gas and I since we had a new electricity meter fitted we've never received a bill. I have rang them countless times over this period and each time get told there…

I'm having a debate with my husband at the moment and wondered if someone could confim which of us is correct. We currently has a gas kettle and with all the utility price hikes are looking to reduce costs wherever possible. My husband thinks that the gas kettle will be a lot more expensive to run than an electric one. I…

Requirements for letting a meter reader in to your house
Does anyone know how often Scottish Power / dataserve have to gain access to read the electricity meter. To explain : My dad is an oap, disabled with mental difficulties. I put him on the online tariff last September where I input the meter readings every 60 days to produce a bill for him. He lives in a new property and…

Switching to capped?
Having seen the news tonight, I'm considering going Capped. However, if I switch, I will end up paying at least 20% more, straight away, months before the so-called Autumn rises actually kick in. Bearing this in mind, are the savings to be made really going to be that significant?

I am moving into a new build flat next month and I have just found out it has Gas and Electric rather than just electric.
