Switching to capped?

Having seen the news tonight, I'm considering going Capped. However, if I switch, I will end up paying at least 20% more, straight away, months before the so-called Autumn rises actually kick in. Bearing this in mind, are the savings to be made really going to be that significant?

We're currently in the low usage months, so 20% on top of a little isn't as much as 20% on top of a lot.

We switched to Scottish Power Fixed until end of Feb 2011, just got in in time, made the switch when we heard a few weeks back that 40% was looking likely.

If the prices do rise and you did go for the price fix, then your price would only increase by the 20% and not the 40% it might.

It's all simply a gamble, it may pay off, it might not. Back in March 2005 we took the gamble not to price fix - this was the right choice, this time we are price fixing.

on the other hand 40% is probably the maximum anywhere that your energy could GO UP

In the last round people said 35% and the likes but most people ended up with anything from 10% upwards

I think serious scaremongering is going on here as well as the news from the BofE , its a disgrace

The %-age increase was very very low, so made sense this time to price-fix. If the price %-age increase had been into double figures for us then we would have thought harder. This is why we only price fixed the electric and not the gas, as the electric was only a tiny tiny %-age increase, whereas the gas was a lot lot %-age increase.

On BBC working lunch program yesterday they ran a story about capped prices and comparisons between capped, uncapped and a few energy suppliers

In all cases there was only a small difference between capped and uncapped which they got the data from uswitch. Now I remember Adam saying that you would be a idiot being on a uncapped rate

ow I seen a few people on here mention its a big difference for now so how who is right?

For us there was little difference fixed or un-fixed for electricity. However gas was a very large difference.
