No electricity bills received

Options
Hi

For the last year at least we have been having our regular meter readings taken but no bills have ever arrived. Whilst we are enjoying not having to pay we are conscious that sooner or later someone somewhere may send us a large bill. We are with BG and I we haven't swapped supplier as we haven't wanted to rock the boat. Can anyone give me advice on how to approach this. Should I apply to swap supplier and see what happens, fess up and pay whatever bill arrives, argue for a reduced bill or sit tight?

You say you are with BG. Have they confirmed this in writing to you that you are under contract with them?

If so, sit tight. You've already had a year's energy supplied on interest free credit and as long as they have been able to bill you but haven't, then they can only bill you for 12 months prior to any bill issued. You won't get any cheaper energy anywhere else than what you received 13 months ago!

Of course, if you've not provided British Gas with the relevant information to bill you correctly, of course you'll end up paying for all of it...and big time!

Edit: just read your previous post here

I can't see any reason they don't know who you are - keep quiet and enjoy the free lecky. As I said, they can only back bill you for 12 months.

  • Thanks, are you sure about the 12 months?

We have previously had bills, which we paid and then they stopped coming and we didn't chase them...obviously.
