I am moving into a new build flat next month and I have just found out it has Gas and Electric rather than just electric.

I have never lived on my own before so i was wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea of the costs & who would be best to go with? I have tried using various comparison websites but they all ask you to put in how much you use and i just do not know?

* The flat is on the top floor of (only 2 floors plus the ground in total). survey stated that the insulation was average.

* It has 1 bedroom a living room with open plan kitchen, bathroom, fairly large hallway. Total is 46m2.

* Will only be me living there.

* I work full time so will only be using energy on evenings & weekends

* Gas central heating, - I dont like the house really warm
Electric cooker, - I will be cooking most evenings

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Its difficult to state an accurate cost figure as there are too many variables, but if you budget about £80-£90 per month for both (not each), you shouldn't be too far out.

Regarding who to go with, have a look at this earlier response I gave to someone else.

It hard to say but if you have average insulation as you are on the top floor you may be heating the sky in winter you might thing of getting you loft insulated check out for grants of the council s the house old or new (last couple of years)
"survey stated that the insulation was average."
If it is new build from scratch, it shouldn't be average insulation, but if it is a new refurbishment then it might be have a look on the meters and check the volume usage in a week time that by 52 and then add a further 50% on you gas one (this is for the winter heating)
Do you have a combi boiler (boiler fires up when you turn on the tap)
