Connection to gas main - is it true?
I heard this story recently and thought I would share it with the board. It could be apochrophyl... A chap in rural Solihull bought a remote property and wanted to get mains gas delivered to the house. An old farmhouse apparently, set back 200 yds or so from the road. British Gas (or Transco?) quoted circa £22,000 to do…

Countrywide Energy - anyone using this?
After trying several different sites for comparisons, I have found Countrywide Energy quoted as the cheapest supplier for my gas. Calling Energy Helpline to arrange a switch, they tell me that 'yes it is the cheapest but we can't do the link-up for you', but they kindly gave me the phone number. This really proves that…

Unfair bashing of Door-to-Door Sales Reps
I would like to take issue with Martin's crusade against door-to-door sales people. Whilst I am not defending the indefensible, i.e. those who lie about the prices and deals on offer, surely we must respect those who do a professional, competent job and not tar them all with the same brush. It is impossible to be given the…

British Gas raise gas and electric prices
Hot off the BBC website: British Gas raise gas and electric prices The rise is on top of January's increase of 5.9% British Gas is putting up its gas and electricity prices for domestic users. The cost of gas will rise by 12.4% and the cost of electricity will rise by 9.4%, the company said. The new prices take effect from…

TP+getting better!!
I am now once again receiving e bills and in plenty of time! Can honestly say that I really am getting the lowest gas, elec, and phone bills ever. I am a very low user, so it suits me to enter my readings every month and get an accurate bill. Better than a fixed DD where you give utility companies an interest free loan!

A free loan for your new utility company!
A word of caution for MSE subscibers when changing utility company. After I had set up my standing order British Gas wanted to take more than twice the amount of what I had previously paid. Thus amounting as a free loan to themselves! Needless to say I have put them right and will be watching them closely!

Prepayment Meter Gas/Electric
Sorry if this area is already covered by Martin, but as with many, Im finding this all very overwelming. Ive recently moved into a flat which was provided by npower for Gas+Elect. After a few months I welcomed in a BritGas saleman, if he could sell me a better deal, we'll go with them. Sure enough, the math worked out,…

Additional 'Use of System charge'
Have recently moved house. After a few months, decided to move my gas supply to SWALEC (since they also supplied my electricity). Just received my first bill for the 5 months to 29 July 2004 = £108. Of this, £11 was for the 'service charge', and an ADDITIONAL £11 was for a 'Use of System Charge'. Didn't have this on my…

Scottish Power price increase from 9th August
Recieved a letter yesterday letting me know that Scottish power are increasing their prices with effect from 9th august. I'm on dual fuel and the unit charges are increasing by about 8% >:( Standing Charges are unchanged. I suggest people shop around as I've found something cheaper with Powergen via Martin's link to Energy…

Powergen DD payments
Changed our bank a few months ago, as Powergen ignored written and telephone requests to move to new bank I eventually registered for online access to my account and changed the detail there, a couple of days after a payment. All details were accepted fine and when I check them online they show correct details and bank.…

Powergen ineptitude
I hope this is the right place for this topic. I am in dispute with Powergen regarding my electricity bill. We moved into this rented house in Feb 2001 and ever since then they have failed to bill me correctly. It has now come to the stage where they have sent me a bill for £1800 which they claim is what I owe. The problem…

www.telecomplus.org.uk
I just read about these through another website they provide electricity/gas/broadband (19.99 for 512 - no limit). They say they beat anyother supplier hands down (I know everyone says that!) Just wondered if anybody is using these and if so how do they find the service/pricing etc. Cheers. Mick.

Scottish Power Online Account

Now i am in the process of emailing Scottish Power, as due to a c0ck up on their part, i now owe about £300 on the one…
