Is it illegal to work without a contract?
I've been in my job for 4 months and still haven't been issued with a contract. I have asked my manager about this but have been told that HR has a backlog to get through. What can I do about this? I always thought a contract was a legal requirement.

What makes a good reference?
Hi all, I am particularly looking for opinions from people involved in recruitment of staff - HR/managers etc, but of course all opinions are welcome. Do you think responsibilities are being shifted here?
I've recently found out that my manager is in fact a "Project Coordinator".
