temp placement slashed

i've recently started a temporary role which i was told was confirmed for 3 months to end in mid december.

i've just heard from one of the team managers that its only for another two weeks and i've only been here for a week and a half.

if i'd have known it was so short i may have looked elsewhere before agreeing.

probably a silly question but, is there anything i can do?

No matter what agencies etc say, a temping job is usually on "one hour's notice". Even if they'd employed you in a permanent position, you could've found yourself in this position without any 'come back' for two years.

Just accept it for what it is. Client requirements will change between when they speak to the agency and when the temp starts...maybe they've no idea how long the job will last until the temp's been there a week and they can see how much has been achieved.

It's the way it works: no commitment, one hour's notice. That's what temping's for: easy in/easy out for employers to plug gaps.

Yep always in the employer's favour.

Successive government have virtually disintegrated an employees rights if they have not been with a company for more than 2 years.

My wife took a 3 month temporary contract which actually lasted 8 days! Absolutely nothing you can do about it. On a positive though, the company called her a few weeks later to ask if she was interested in a 6 month fixed term contract. That was on the basis of how impressed they were with her in the 8 days she worked for them previously. She didn't have to go through an interview process and is now on the permanent staff come 3 years later.
