Is it illegal to work without a contract?

I've been in my job for 4 months and still haven't been issued with a contract. I have asked my manager about this but have been told that HR has a backlog to get through. What can I do about this? I always thought a contract was a legal requirement.

Under Employment Law, if you are not issued with a contract of employment within 3 weeks of starting then you are deamed to be covered by a standard contract of employment as defined by the Government.
I am on a 12 week fixed-term contract (at the moment). It took my employers 6 weeks to issue me a full contract.Never Knowingly Understood.

The easy solution to finding out how much holiday you are entitled to is to ask your employer rather than people on an internet forum who will have no idea.0

The lack of a written contract does not mean there is no contract.
You work you get paid you have a contract.
Contract will be formed by anything that was agreed(proving those terms can be difficult) and written in things like the job offer or standard terms in handbooks.
The legal requirement is written particulars(within 2 months) but there is no way to enforce this.
There is no 3 weeks rule.

An employer is meant to get a contract/written particulars to you within 8 weeks but there is little you can do if they don'tDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
I've been working at a place with no contract for almost 2 years now. Never had day off or holiday.
I think I would get sacked if I had a 2 week holiday.0
