Too easy to close
My Natwest VISA has ended with its 0% balance transfer offer. I haven't closed any cards in the past so I thought I should to improve my credit rating perhaps. I phoned just now and that's it, it's closed. I just have to destroy the card and wait for a confirmation in writing. How easy was that? I'm well surprised.

Credit cards for 16/17 year old?
Hi, I'm new here and I have a question regarding credit cards for minors :) My daughter is 16, she has a part time job and is very good with her money. As she is under 18 she is unable to apply for her own credit card. Quite rightly so, as the temptation to spend may be too much. However, this does mean that she has to…

Do "earmarked funds" attract interest?
What I mean is, say for a Switch transaction, when a purchase is made on the Switch card, the funds are immediately earmarked, so that the "available to spend" amount is reduced in your bank account, but the main balance is unchanged until the transaction is fully processed. Now my question, say for example you're in your…

Lloyds v Mint v HSBC
I have narrowed my next application for a credit card between Lloyds, Mint & HSBC. Does anyone have any experiences they wish to share on how these cards compare. Lloyds is 12m 0%, Mint is 8m 0% and HSBC is 9m 0% so i should maximise with Lloyds, however if they offer low credit limits like Barclaycard then I might be…

Automatic direct debit for minimum payment
Hello everybody, I have a Barclaycard which does not provide what is called “Direct Debit Facility” (as per moneysupermarket definition) for the minimum amount, through which I have been enjoying peace of mind with egg. I wonder how people manage this. Do you log in 3 days before the due date and carry out the payment by…

Shadow transactions
Firstly, I apologise if someone else has already mentioned this, but I couldn't find it anywhere and I think it will be very useful to know with Christmas coming up and our cards taking a bit of a hammering. Online organisations (eg PayPal) will process your credit card payment immediately, then, a couple of days later,…

Free Internet Telephony
Hi Not sure if this has been covered by Martins money tips but there is a free download on the internet called SKype that allows you to call people via your computer rather than your telephone. (Using a headset/Headphones - soundcard on your PC) It is free to download and if you and your friends both have the application…

have I ruined my chances?cards
I think I made a big mistake. In October I paid off my balances and applied for a series of new cards to replace my existing 0% cards. I also applied for a personal loan with a few companies. I got turned down for about 4 cards and all of the unsecured loans. I have never had a credit problem. I realise that I probably…

A&L Moneyback card (1%)
I've just seen this card and it's giving 1% cashback up to £20,000 spending per year. Why isn't this given on the credit card cashback article? Is there something wrong with it? https://wwwa.applyonlinenow.com/UKMPapp/Ctl/redirect?CV_sourceCode=aalmbg_mcds&CV_banner=AAL-HP-21293-22475 MattLG

Amex Blue, Worth It?
Hi all Applied for an Amex Blue card yesterday, with the intention of using it for all my future purchases to pocket the cashback. However after reading the thread on who does/doesn't accept it, i'm having second thoughts. I shop at asda so this will be where i clock up a large wedge of cashback. If i'm gonna have trouble…

Virgin Card in Money Tips
Martin says I am in month 4 of a Virgin 0% for 9 months offer. I have just spoken to Roman at Virgin (lovely irish accent!) and he stated that the first 6 months of the account are fee free, after that it's 2% or £50 whichever is higher! What is going on? :-/

Barclaycard 2.9% offer
I applied for the original 0% life of balance offer after being alerted to it my Martin on the radio. I never had a response from Barclaycard and assumed I had been unsuccesful. However I have received a letter from Barclaycard telling me that they have altered the terms of my card. I called them and was told that I was…

When your application is turned down...
I applied to MBNA, attracted by the 0% offer, and intending to dispense with all other cards. However, I've been turned down because of information in Experian. I am rather surprised, and have written asking Experian for information. Have others experienced this, and what advice would they give, please? :-[ :-[
