Automatic direct debit for minimum payment

Hello everybody,

I have a Barclaycard which does not provide what is called “Direct Debit Facility” (as per moneysupermarket definition) for the minimum amount, through which I have been enjoying peace of mind with egg.
I wonder how people manage this. Do you log in 3 days before the due date and carry out the payment by hand?
Another solution I was thinking of is to set up up a payment from my current account online banking facility. Is it possible to charge the card this way? If yes, how do I set this up? And how long does it take for the payment to reach the card (i.e. how long before the minimum payment date should I trigger the payment from the current account to be safe?)
Furthermore I have an account with Barclays and was wondering whether such a payment would be immediate if I carry it out from the Barclays Account. 

Same considerations apply for another card of mine, a TUC card from bank of Scotland (current account from Halifax is managed through the same online facility – same login/PW).

Thanks in advance for any insight into this!!!!

  • You can make payments from your current account card (i.e. switch/delta) at the Barclaycard website.

The alternative is to set up a regular payment on your internet banking account.

Although I don't have one any more I'm sure you can set up direct debits to pay either the minimum amount or the whole balance each month.
  • if you telephone barclaycard they will send you out a direct debit form - i did. it takes a while to set up so ring them to see if it is set up before your next payment date then you can pay by yourcard if necessary.

sent my form back middle of june - had to pay 1st july's min payment myself but it was all set up august onwards!

I haven't been able to find out how to make regular payments to the card. I can only make one-off payments ("Make payments" on the Barclaycard website). "Valid payments made through Barclaycard.co.uk will be credited to your Barclaycard account within 2 working days."

I don't want to have to login and make a payment manually every month, two days before the minimum amout is due.
How do I do setup a regular payment from the barclaycard website?

If I have to setup a payment from my *current account*, how many days before the payment is due on the card shall the payment be executed?

    Thanks,

Posted the above without reading the last post.

I will try the direct debit way form thx

Why don't they provide it online though, you would expect it from a big name as Barclays.

Direct debit mandate needs a signature, so they would need to put it in the post, even if you can ask for it online/telephone.

Once it is set up, your statement will say that x amount will be collected on y date. Until it says that on statement (takes a few days), pay manually.
  • I pay minimum each month by DD to my Barclaycard 0% Account.

  • Thanks for all the info. Once the form arrives, is it pre-filled up already?
I may be asking for help again...

    Thanks guys,

PS = If it needs a signature, why have I been able to set it up for paypal online?
  • Direct Debits can usually be set up over the phone, in fact my Barclaycard DD was set-up at the same time as I phoned up to activate the card.

This is no longer the case. Direct debits can be set up online and in most cases you will have the option of "electronic setup" or "traditional paper for signature". If you choose the electronic method, you should receive confirmation of your instruction by post, with nothing to sign.
How do I add a signature?
