Friends with different levels of disposable income
Can people share experiences of drifting apart from long term friends, simply because some of us have entered different "social classes" and therefore enjoy different hobbies. Theres a group of us, we enjoy going out to nice restaurants, chalet holidays. When we fly if its longhaul we sometimes fly business and stay in the…

Service charge in restaurants - yes or no?
I dislike service charges in restaurants/bars with a passion. Where does everyone else stand on this? I realise 'fancy' places and most places in London d this, but the practice is pervading many other areas of the UK now. This is not in our culture here in the UK - in London, many restaurants are owned by foreigners, who…

Everyman cinema membership
Anyone taken out Everyman cinema membership? I think for an annual fee you get 6 free tickets, BOGOF Mondays, special event offers, 10% off food and drink. Is it worth it if you don't drink alcohol, and not sure how much pizza/ burgers can munch on again and again. Would I be better off just joining Vue or Odeon?

[Help needed] discount on O2 Academy?
My New Year’s resolution is to go to lots of gigs, and I’ve already spotted several at my local O2 academy, but I know it’s going to add up fast. Is there any way to save money on tickets? I looked at getting O2 Priority but that doesn’t seem to save you money on tickets, it just lets you jump queues.

Why is wine in pubs/restaurants so expensive?
Why is wine in pubs/restaurants so expensive and has anyone started a campaign to do anything about it? I understand that draft beer requires some TLC. Correct cellar temperature, clean pipes and even pouring skills, so although not 100% happy, can accept the usual price charged. But for a large glass of wine out of a…

Meerkat Movies
Thought I'd share this small success with you all - Just before Christmas 2023, I thought I'd have a go at getting the Meerkat Movie deal by buying cheap 1 day travel insurance as suggested by MSE. I found a cheap deal at £1.01 so went ahead and bought it. Sure enough, it worked! Not only do I have 2 for 1 cinema tickets…

Do you tip in restaurants?
Wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this, so admin, please move if needed. Do you guys (and girls) tip when you go for a meal out? Personally I hate the idea, and it's even worse when you've got the waiter standing next to you as you select "No" on the card machine. However, I always say that I don't get tips…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should I refuse to pay the service charge when eating out?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... I've just moved to London from the south-west of England. Restaurants are expensive and normally charge at least 12.5% for service. I visited a café where I was annoyed to be charged the 'dine in' rate of almost £2 more per item, and then charged extra for service too. I paid…

Odeon ticket prices - cheapest options (analysis)
Odeon seat and screen types 'Premier' seats just have a larger headrest. This may restrict the view if you are in subsequent rows behind Premier seats. They are also possibly in the best place in the cinema, but this is not necessarily the case. There is a flat £2 per person supplement for premier seating (e.g. £4 for…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should we return to the restaurant to pay after being evacuated from it?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... My husband and I were having lunch at a restaurant that's part of a small chain when the fire alarm went off. The staff asked everyone to evacuate, then to vacate the area so the fire brigade had access. We later learned it was a false alarm, and I said we should return to…

Toby carvery 50% off main meals
Hi this is back on. Lasts until Friday I believe . You need to download the app and show the code to your server, please read the t&c. It says can't be used on buffet, which I'm unsure if that means the carvery itself, as there isn't a lot of choice on "main" meals. Hopefully someone can clarify!

What's the cheapest drink at the pub?
I'm going to sound really boring but I'm a water drinker at home. Even if I've got an early start for work, I still drink water not coffee. In the office it's water. After a long hard week at work, it'll still be a glass of water with my dinner. The only time I don't drink water is when I'm going to social events/going for…
