2 live wire arriving at my lights
All, I've got another thing puzzling me in my electrics: all my lights seem to have 2 neutral wires. I decided to try to measure voltage between live and each neutral with my Fluke, and albeit one reported 240V as expected, the other reported 170V! Also, the electrician connected both neutral together, is that the right…

British Gas Homecare 400 - any cheaper alternative
I'm looking to cut my outgoings. I have British Gas Homecare 400 - insurance cover for breakdown of electrical and heating system such as boiler etc and also drainage. Includes an annual service. They increased the price of the cover a few months ago from roughly £20 to £27. A substantial increase. Not keen on downgrading…

EON bill problem
Hi, we have been contacted by EON saying we owe them over £400. We have always paid our monthly direct debit on time for the amount set by EON. In fact in the past EON reviewed our account several times and reduced the monthly costs off their own back. We also have a coal fire so we expected our EON bills to be fairly low…

£20+ electric in 4 days.....really?!
Hi I am on a pre payment meter, almost everything runs on electric in my house, barring the cooker. I have no gas central heating, instead it is ancient underfloor heating which takes over 12 hours to heat up, also costing me a fortune so I never use it. My gas heater in the lounge has just been condemed so I can't even…

Future price increases
I am with Npower &, by changing my tariff, with them, to "Sign Online 21", I can nearly match any Online switching saving. This tariff is a variable price & tied into until March 2012. Is there any likelyhood that they might increase their prices, above everybody else's, & I am stuck until March 2012? Thanks, John

Caller says he can save me 11pc on electricity....
.... but how can he know? Call from my gas supplier suggesting I switch to dual-fuel. Other than telling him which electricity supplier I'm with, he has no details of the tariff I'm on or what my last bill was. At least, I didn't tell him. So how can he possibly promise to save me at least 11pc a year? I would think it…

How long does it take to replace a combi boiler?
I was just curious about the time it took to replace a combi boiler? I have a Ravenheat combi that needs replacing with a Vaillant Eco Tect 837 Combi Condensing Boiler. I suspect I also need the system power flushing before new boiler goes on. Can anyone tell me how long should a proper power flush take and seperately how…

Change from pre-payment meter to standard
I have a friend who is on a pre-payment meter for both gas and electricity from British Gas. She would obviously like to take advantage of cheaper tariffs by switching suppliers and to standard credit meters. Does anyone have any recent experience of which suppliers would do this for free? Npower seems to be the cheapest…

Shocked by nPower's extra £15 for 5 extra units
I posted something here before about my nPower bill. I sent in a reading with extra gas and electricity. The electricity was, I thought, about £25 extra, but the gas was only 3 units. When they sent a fresh bill, they'd recalculated it all using a different tariff, charging three times as much for a lot of the units, and…

Ebico Price increases.
Hi, I recently received a letter from Ebico detailing their planned price increases for 10 January 2011. I don't think there price increase is that bad considering, they have no standing charge, and I don't really use that much gas to heat my home. I was wondering what other users of Ebico think of these new prices?…

Electricity Supply For Very Small Unit User (Rural Church)
Hiya, My local church uses very, very little electricity but we pay a fortune for it. However, it doesnt seem to be an easy task to find a supplier who will touch it with a barge pole. I wasnt expecting miracles, but even £20 would be worth it! Currently: Standing charge = 44.59p per day Annual usage c 100 units @ 16.89p…

A little help please. Who knows how to read a gas meter?
Hi all, I'm sure that I've been ripped off by Southern for my gas however, I cannot prove this because I don't know what the numbers on the meter mean and also, the people in their call centre are not helping me. I have a digital prepayment meter and I'm supposed to be on Ebico's Equigas at 3.5 per KWh.. There is a screen…

Card Meter - British Gas, Can they do this?
I've had a card / meter for my gas for near on 2 years, at the time it suited me perfectly, made redundant and it was a good way for me to pay exisiting bill and pay for future gas without running up a bill, the company actually suggested this method. Now however circumstances are much improved and I am constantly told by…

NPower fixed rate offer
Hello. I'm with NPower for both gas and electricity and my 2yr fixed rate has just finished. They have offered me to go with Go Fix 4 to fix my prices until March 2012 at a 4% premium on average to npower standard prices as at December 6th 2010. Their words. They also give £100.00 discount per year if both fuels are paid…

would you swap gas and elec supplier for a £165 a year saving?
Am wondering if it is worth it as I am happy with current supplier and I like the way their bills are laid out - I have changed a few times in past years and always found it a bit of a nightmare and nowhere near as easy as they claim...normally the problems have been new company not having correct readings and trying to…

Using different supplies for Gas and Electricity
Hi, I have just started to look at switching Utility provider to save some money. My current supplier (Scottish Power) gave me details of my yearly usage and KWH pricing for comparison. Putting the details in a spread sheet, I was surprised that there was more money to be saved by using different suppliers for Gas and…
