basically she has 10 weeks of school left before she goes to high school. the chances are towards the end her class will be taking part in events to send them off, like school photo / class photo, school plays, leavers assembly etc - you might find you will want her wearing the proper uniform so as to look the same as the others. married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-09

except when state schools get above themselves and tie you into one supplier. I can only buy DD school trousers, polo shirt, sweatshirt and PE kit from the school shop as they have to have the official school logo on them.
I hate the rule and I have written to express my dissatisfaction with it but it was introduced before DD attended the school and they are not going back on the decision. I did know about the rule but it's my catchment area school and in this LEA all children go to their catchment area school as they discourage preferred placements and they are usually turned down. My choice was pay the inflated prices of "unique" uniform or go through the stress, hassle and extra travel costs of trying to get DD into another school.
IMO tieing parents into a specific supplier should not be allowed. I am all for uniform but just the basics of colours and school tie.
I work in a school and can confirm that it is illegal to insist parents buy uniform from a preferred supplier, or the school itself. The uniform can have logo's but the school cannot insist the uniform bears the logo unless that item is available from a variety of sources. This came in last year. The school can state colour, style but not where you buy it. If a school does this you need to contact the LEA on their parental helpline and discuss it with them, or talk to the school chair of Governors, ask to see their uniform policy, all state schools should have one.
I am all in favour of uniform, but it has to be affordable, easily obtainable and easy clean!DEBT FREE since 2011

Does this apply to Wales as well as England. I've seen the uniform policy as it's part of the new parents info. See page 29

we have a choice at our school, we can pay OTT prices for a uniform with the schools logo or buy plain clothes. most choose to buy 1 jumper with logo for use on occasions where it would be good to see the logo ie school trips, school events ad photos etc the rest of the time it is the school colours without logo. i work in a primary school and our logoed clothes are supplied by 1 firm but you have the option to buy them or plain. either way its up to the parent but we would never force the parent to buy a particualr one.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0

As far as I am aware, Scotland is under a different system, but think Wales is the same as England.DEBT FREE since 2011

So, basically according to their policy (I read page 29) you have no choice but to wear logo'd trousers or skirts - this is the bit I would have a problem with.
The info re sweatshirt seems to imply a royal blue unlogo'd would be ok - is that right?
I would ring local authority helpline (if you feel inclined to tackle this) and ask for LEA clarification - then that will confirm if Wales is the same.
I will look on a few headteacher links and get back if i find the regulation.

They have regular inspection of skirts and trousers to see if they have the correct ones. They look out for fakes as some take the logo off old trousers and sew them on non school issue ones. From a distance the logo looks okay but you can see it close up as it's embroidered into the fabric. The trousers are in my DD words minging and they don't fit well. You have a choice of sit on the waist narrow leg or sit just below the waist and wider leg. The wider leg ones look ridiculous on DD who is skinny so she has the narrow leg ones which fall down off her waist anyway! I have never seen a girl in a skirt but apparently they are dreadful.
Sweatshirt is also embroidered with logo but a local uniform shop copied the logo and put it on their sweatshirts and polos. School took action against them, not sure of outcome.
The logo on the trousers and the sweatshirt is different. The trousers one has been registered but I think they were not able to do that with the one on the sweatshirts.
PE skort also has to have logo on and the PE t-shirts which is two colours is again specific to the school shop.
I will ring the LEA to ask them for their view as the school don't seem to take on board parent comments regarding the issue.

that is absolutely discusting, surely it is against our human rights for a school to dictate in such a way what our children wear for their own financial gains.
im all for uniform as i have said previously but this is taking it too far. i would definitely look into this if i were you.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0 -
Is this just primary schools? At my school we had to wear specific uniform from a special shop and we couldn't wear any thing else. We were sent home otherwise. This was the local comp.0
