If only! I have sometimes had immense difficulty finding new black school trousers mid-year, and even at the start of the year when there's that panic buying of uniforms I can't always get what I need! And while I used to buy a size or two ahead when they were younger, that stopped working when they got fussy ...oompahloompah wrote: »Children, especially around puberty, grow - it's not unusual, which is why school uniform is available in the shops all year round and not just before the start of a new school year.
Fortunately DS3 says his trousers ARE still long enough, and I'm trying not to check, because he won't even need them for 51 days, what with his study leave and GCSEs.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Are we talking white shirts? I ask because in primary school DD had to have blue which are more difficult to get in blouses and usually more expensive. I had to buy DD two blue school blouses for the last term in primary knowing they would be no good for comp. I gave them to the school when she left as they had a second hand uniform shop. TBH it probably worked out cheaper than her wearing her out of school clothes but I did begrudge.
White ones are dirt cheap and the supermarket ones fit DD (age 13 5' 2" ). She wears age 12 which are very generous. The fitted trendy ones are more expensive if you want them to fit nicely and you do have to go up an age group (which makes them even more expensive!) but I only buy 2 of them for DD each year as they are not seen. The other 3 are supermarket ones. She wears the posh ones on PE days when they get an outting in the changing room:o . After Easter they wear polo shirts for the summer term which I think is a bit of an expense for one term as they have to come from the school with their logo on. I bought as generous as DD would let me get away with in Y7 hoping for they would fit for Y8 summer term and they do:T :T :T

uniform isnt compulsary in my childrens primary school but it is a request from the HT that all children dress the same. it sets a good example, my DD outgrew her uniform twice this year and i have had to buy new at Christmas and Easter and i wouldnt think twice about doing so. it is respect for the schoold policy, if you as a parent respect that it will instill respect into your children and this can only be a good thing.
i cant remember the OP saying whether the child can wear polo shirts or not as these are dirt cheap.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0 -

Ha ha, I know what you mean - we had the ceremonial burial of uniform at the end of June Y11. Then, the next week, DS got a job as a waiter and needed - guess what - black trousers, black shoes....:rolleyes:0 -
p.s. If anyone writes a letter to their school about uniforms, then please note, the correct spelling is compulsory...:pMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Yup, DS1 and DS2 have both worked at the local cinema, where white shirt and black trousers are suggested if not actually required - t-shirts are a definite no-no, although I think DS1 has sometimes worn his black joggers.Ha ha, I know what you mean - we had the ceremonial burial of uniform at the end of June Y11. DS3 is saying he intends to get a job at the hotel near the 6th form centre. I said he'd need to tie his (waist-length) hair back for that, someone who's already worked there says nothing but a haircut will do! :eek:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I think for the harmony between your daughter and the teachers, buy some shirts over the weekend or so cheaply/ second hand and send a letter of apology saying that you were unable to go and purchase a shirt that evening due to the lateness of being told about it etcetera.0

Tell me about it. The only school trousers I could find for ds in Feb were awful thick, horrible to wash, hard to iron ones. I had to replace all of them, cos the last lot I'd bought to start the school year with he'd gone thru the knee in each one. If anyone has found trousers that boys don't go thru the knee on, please let me know. He can either wear grey, black or navy.If only! His new trousers are being binned 1 by 1 the last week of school this summer.:p and he wears navy polo shirts which are a pig to find even at 'back to school' uniform selling time. I struck lucky and found 2 reduced in Tesco for 50p. I'd have liked the larger size but beggars can't be choosers. I shall be carefully saving the navy polo shirts for dd, for when she gets to that school.0 -

DS had trousers from Next and they are still going strong, they have a couple of bobbles on the leg hem from wear but the knees have held up since September.0
