Yes it's because of vat, my sister had exactly the same thing happen. It works out ok because it's taken off your line rental and you save vat on your bill each month so eventually you save the full £100
(sorry I don't think I've explained that very well, but I hope you get the jist of what I am trying to say)

Im currently on £10 a month line rental (50% disount) with 1000 mins + 100 texts per month. Im now outside of the 12 month contract period and want to upgrade my phone - i dont think o2 will upgrade the phone without increasing the line rental  does anyone know of any other pay monthly deals for a tenner (not any of these cashback jobs just a straight contract).0

Many thanks for all the advice in this thread, without which I would never have managed to negotiate 500 mins and 100 texts for £20. I have two phones on my account and have replaced my phone with the D900 for £49.99 and my husband's with the N70 for free. This is on a 12 month contract.
It was certainly hard work achieving this deal and I had to ring retentions on about four different occasions. I was told that I could not have the additonal texts (which we are unlikely to use anyway) because I was not an O2 online customer - I receive bills through the post each month.
I was told that if I wanted to transfer to O2 online, I could not keep the same numbers unless I transfered to another network first - seemed like too much trouble for such a small gain.
Out of interest, the other deals I was offered was 750 mins, 750 text on an 18 month contract for £35 per month. I was also offered a 20% discount on the O2 long weekend plans e.g. 600 mins, 100 texts plus free calls every Sat, Sun and Mon - up to 2000 mins per month - for £28 per month. I could also have upgraded to the D900 or the K800i for free. Again this was on an 18 month contract. As I really do not think that we will make use of these free minutes, happily settled for the £20 per month package. I also like the idea of being able to upgrade the phones in a year rather than 18 months time. So many thanks to 'my friend' who suggested that I asked about this offer.0 -

o2 will offer you a new phone even though you only pay £10 per month. I have paid £10 each month for the last year and was offered a number of handsets including the K610i free, but the phone i was after was the K800i which was £80 but if i waited a few weeks this would drop in price.0 -

Keep arguing that you have been offered something like 200mins/500 texts for £15 month with a free K800i from orange or 3 and threaten to leave by asking for your PAC code.
this should help improve their offer.0 -

Well I told them that orange had offered me the W550i (which is the phone I really really want) with 300text/100mins for £12. They then offered me the deal for £15 but not with the W810, so I said I will go look at the phones that have and they have no nice ones for that price.
I could say that I dont want the offer because I phoned Orage back and they will match the deal O2 offered with the W810i :think:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
I've just been on the phone to 02, I have 2 contracts with them, both spending £30-40 a month.
They offered me -
400 mins 100 texts for £15 a month with W810i
and 250 Mins 500 Texts for £15 a month with W810i
I'm not interested in a k800i, they are too big for me and I have a digi camera for photos.
I'm thinking of asking them to up the texts to 200 on the first one and I'll take both the offers up.

Has anyone got nearly as good on o2???0 -
I have been with O2 for three years now, my last contract, which was £15 for 500 minutes and 400 texts went up to £25 a month and O2 took off my free 400 text allowance when the 12months was up, without informing me.
Has anyone else had this problem with O2?
I do not think it is good service that they increase my bill by £10 and take off my 400 free texts without informing me. I now have a bill of around £50 instead of £15 and did not realise until it was too late.
When i try and change the contract, back to how it was they will not allow it.
Any ideas what i can do / say to try and make them give me a better deal?0
