O2 New Retention Tariff Discount 500 / Discount 750

OK - with a bit of haggling, I was able to get 500 mins and 500 texts, plus a SE K610i (which I may swap for something else once it arrives) for £20 a month, for 12 months. Any tips on what is a good handset to opt for?0

I called O2 about upgrading. I had done so earlier in the year but it arrived faulty, the replacement was faulty too. I wasn't too keen on the others on offer for free at that time so I left it for a bit.
Today they offered me one of the same phones but wanted a £100. I explained I wasn't keen on this handset but I found it a bit much to be asking £100 when earlier in the year they offered it for free.
So the person put me on hold and funnily enough when she returned she was able to offer me 4 different phones for free!!!! Including the one they wanted a £100 for. LOL!!!
I think someone else must have looked at the account and realised they were losing an account that has been with them for over 8 years and they were not prepared to lose it!!!0 -

thats definitely not it. They do things totally randomly. It all depends on who you get . I've only been with them one year, my spend isnt above £20 per month, yet I still managed to get the Nokia N80, SE W810i both offered for free , when they originaly wanted nearly £300 for each.0 -
i've been with 02 for 12 mnths. Just phoned retentions and got 500xnet mins 100 texts free samsung d900 12mnth contract - £15.00 pm. really pleased.0

last year had online 200 -with discount- for £15/ month.
I'm now just into my 13th month, phoned o2 yesterday and was offered:
500 min, 500 texts for £20/mth. 12 mth contract.
Didn't like the look of any of the phones being offered and th Samsung D900 which I really wanted would cost me £109. At one point in the call I was offered £100 cashback but said I really would prefer the phone instead. My details were then taken and I was told that a PAC code would be sent to me within 3 days.
Have now had some time to think about it and I really should have taken the cashback offer (my own phone is in good order and I could always buy the D900 on ebay when the price has gone down a bit?) Is there any chance they would still let me accept the offer or have I burned my bridges completely?0 -
Been with O2 for ~4 years (I think), rung up to renew my contract & straight off got offered the discount 500 for £20/month (currently paying £15 for online 500). Wanted to N80 but they wouldn't do it for less than 200, instead got the K800i (3G) - Cybershot for £69.99.
Can't complain
Thanks for this great forum.0 -

Yes you will still be able to accept this offer. Even though you've requested your PAC code it does not cancel your contract until you pass it onto another provider.
If you use ebay, your best bet is to get a samsung E900 and sell it on ebay (sold mine last week for £170) then get a D900 in a few months. They should offer the E900 for free0 -
I have been meaning to call up o2 retention for an upgrade for a couple of weeks now and this thread really gave me the motivation to ring them and get a good deal!
Currently on 500 x mins + 100 text for £20 a month and free phone at the time
Have been with o2 for about 5 years and while my bils are fairly low now over the years I have paid some extortionate phone bills so apparently I have a high rating with them
Was Offered 500 x mins & 500 text for £20 but phone I wanted was £79.99 (Sony Erricsson K800i). The guy wouldn't budge so ended call and rang back. Negotiated free K800i and same contract but paying £25 not £20.
Very happy with the deal, worth getting that phone for free, it's going for c.£200 on ebay.0 -

Well done. However by agreeing to paying an extra £5 per month you are effectively paying £60 for the handset over the course of the year so only saving £20. Something to bare in mind0 -

Many thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I'm just off the phone to o2 and they want to charge £89 for the E900 so said I wasn't interested  Think I'll phone back tomorrow and try to get the cashback offer.
