Tried 3 times and all 3 people said that £20 was the minimum they could reduce it to.
As for phone the K800i was £179! as i was a Band A (under £20 user) and E900 £90. If however i have a bill this month of £25+ then ill creep up into band C and so each phone will cost £60 less.
I might take the £100 credit as i am away for 5 of the 12 months.
Going to ring the 0870 number to see if i can improve on this deal.
The 500 Mins and 500 Texts for £20 per month is the best thats on offer just now.0 -
I have just spoke to retentions about my contract.
I said how I was on the 500/500 for £15 last year and they said they would match it again and let me have a choice of phone.
They want 79.99 for the K800i, or free E900, or £30 for the Nokia 6280.
SHe siad she would write on the system what i was offered, i will phone back tom and try to get them to reduce the price of the K800i. if they reduce that to £29.99, then bargain i reckon!0 -
litkid_2000 wrote:I called up and said im paying too much. At that point the o2 guy instantly offered me the same deal for £30 p/m! To be honest i didn't expect this straight away and caved in and accepted. I reckon I should have haggled a bit more though! I was also offered a free K800i or £100 credit. I chose the K800i. Plan is to sell that handset for about £200/250: That will pay for about 8 months rental, leaving me to pay £30 p/m for the final 4 months.
Probably could have done better, but happy anyway. Oh, the guy was going on about a 14 day change mind period: does this refer the contract deal so i could call up and re-haggle?
I did call them back up and was offered the 500min/500text for £20. Downside is they want £80 for the K800i. I can get the W810i for £50, or the K610i for free. I think I might just keep my k750i and get the £100 cash back.
I've to call them back and confirm things. Anyone think I could get the k800i down in price? or should I be happy with the £100 cash back and just use the K750 I have at the moment?0 -

Think if you keep trying should be able to get the k800i for £29.99 - just say that is what your friend/mother/partner/child/dog/goldfish/hamster was offered and they will probably match it.0 -
hello - long time lurker, first time poster here. just hoping that somebody would be kind enough to give me abit of advice about 02 retentions.
i've just come back from a month's travelling and was aware that its time to renegotiate my 02 contract so this thread has been a godsend.
only one small problem though - i think i might have gone into my 13th month of contract by 3 days. My online bill normally comes on the 11th every month and its now the 14th. Does this mean that, without having informed them otherwise, I am now locked into another 12 month contract with 02? (thus greatly harming my bargaining position as I cant threaten to leave the contract)
Im currently paying £20 for 200 xnet minutes and 500 texts, so the £20 for 500xnet minutes and 500 texts, that quite afew people have managed to get, sounds like a very good offer. Naturally i'd threaten to leave if they wouldnt offer me this, but its all abit hollow if Im locked in again. Help!0 -
Don't worry ashmack! I like you was away for a month and missed my end-of-contract date (which was the 10th), and so you now are in a rolling contract, which means you are contracted a month at a time. So, if you upgrade before the end of your 13th month, your new contract will start on the 11th September. I was only on £20 a month for 300 offpeak minutes and 500 texts, and I managed to get them to offer me 500 anytime minutes and 900 texts for the same price! That's the online 500 tariff with an added bolt on of 400 texts for free, so try for the best deal you can. It did take me a couple of phone calls to get this deal, and was bluff was called on one occassion and they sent me my PAC code but keep trying! I was, however, unable to get them to charge me any less than £69.99 for the SE K800i as my average spend was only around £23, although the first deal offered to me was £180!
So don't be afraid to keep haggling! My first operator refused to go lower than £25/m for the online 500, but the second time I got it offered instantly and got the lady to put the offer into the system. I then rang a third time, quoted a 3 offer of 600 mins and 800 texts and instantly was offered the 900 texts!
Let us know how you get on!0 -
Right, something that i had forgotten from last year is that you get offered much better deals if you are an online customer by ringing the 0870 number not the 0800 number.
I just spoke to carl who offered to keep my tarrif the same: £10 p/m for 500mins and 400texts for another 12 months. Phone wise he said the K800i would be £79.99 or K610i FOC. He recommended me to wait till the end of the month and call back because the K800i would drop in price then.
Get in o2! I'll update people if/when the phone price drops0 -
I am at the end of my first year, I am paying £18p/m and getting 300 MSG and 60 mins free. I am not getting my moneys worth at all because I hardly use the damn thing and would be better off on a genie sim for £10p/m
If I tell them I want to cancle because I am not getting value for money do you think they will lower my monthly tarriff? I am also due for a free upgrade and would like a sony erricson w550i, do you think I would get it?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
i want to save - you have all the tools to bargain with retention
go 4 it !If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -
I recently renewed my contract with 02 by phoning the retentions dept - had been paying £25 per month for 500 off peak mins plus 500 texts - got offered 200 mins anytime plus 500 texts for £20 per month which i was happy with.
I ordered samsung E900 which I got for £29.99 (this is £49.99 for a NEW customer).
After a few days I sent the E900 back as I didn't like it (touch sentsitive pad was far too sensitive!)
I asked how much the samsung D900 would be (it is also £49.99 to NEW customers) - I was told it would cost me £99.99!
D600 is free to NEW customers but would cost me £129.99.
Nokia 6280 is free to NEW customers but £99.99 to me.
Has anyone else encountered this?
I can't understand how the E900 phone for example, is similarly priced to D900 for NEW customers (£49.99) but I can get the E900 for £29.99 but am being asked to pay £99.99 for the D900.
As for how the D600 can be free to NEW customers but £129.99 to me is just a joke!!!0
