I asked for my PAC code, with the understanding that I need to give 30 days notice, so I would use my PAC code in the last couple of days of the notice period to get my money's worth. Apparently this is not the case and the 30 days notice starts from the day I USE my PAC code. Yes, you heard that right, so basically once I use my PAC code, I then have to pay for a month for nothing, as my number is already transferred. At first I thought I had misheard or that the lady had got her facts wrong, so I re-confirmed that this was the case a few times and she confirmed that it was. I mentioned that I thought it sounded like a scam as I am out of contract and will essentially be paying for something I don't use. She said that apparently they used to do it without the notice period, but OFCOM told them they had to do it as the other networks had the notice period also??
If anything, they owe you money as you pay your line rental a month in advance which means you've already paid for a month you can't use.Right now, I'm a bit confused, so I said I would transfer to a pay as you go tariff instead and then give get my PAC code and so I've left it at that for now.
I suppose I'm writing this as a bit of buyer beware and just to see if others have experienced this? I will be calling them back up at some point to see if this is correct and then if it is, I will take it further.
Have a search of the forum, there's plenty of threads about T-Mobile doing this.0 -

HTC desire C £15 - 300mins, 500 txts, basic net unlimited 250mb (restricted speed if exceeded)
Sim only 300mins, 5000 texts £5
Need to do some research, but these look like quite good bargains from face value. I said i was looking to switch to giffgaff and wanted something cheap because i am currently unemployed.
Otherwise Three can do 200 minutes 5000 texts and 500MB for £6.90 on a 12 month sim only or Talkmobile will do 200 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB internet for £8 on a 1 month sim only contract.0 -
They aren't interested.
My two year contract is up md Sept. I asked for and got my pac Aug 15th. Had a quick chat then and nothing special offered. I assumed I'd get called, didn't expect anything great from reading this thread, but thought they'd make the effort ........... deafening silence. They really aren't bothered.0 -
Just called them back and apparently there was some confusion as to what the t&c's were, but the guy got clarification and you were right buscape, in that it was 30 days notice from when I ask for the PAC code, so I have that now. Apparently this has meant some of the staff in the call centre who thought otherwise know the rules now (it was a bit different before).
In case anyone else has the same problem, just let the staff on the phone know that on the t&c's on their own website (point 7.2.2) it says that notice to terminate is from when they receive the call.
Thanks for your help buscape!0 -
Did you get the notice period charge refunded?0

Hi sorry to butt in but does that mean say my contract finish say 25 October and I ring up on 25 September and ask for pac does that mean I have served them my notice to leave and I use the pac code say 23 October they should not charge me anything should they.0
-
They aren't supposed to charge you for leaving at the end of your minimum term, but T-Mobile are known for doing so.
Have look at the top of this page for an example and search the forum for even more.0 -
I rang up last year they said you can't do both give 30 days notice and get issued with pac code and if I use pac code I have to give another 30 days notice after pac..... don't understand that although I chose to stick with them.0
-
They're right, you can't do both, a PAC acts as your notice to end the contract (the contract ends when the number is ported) and you don't have to give another 30 days notice after you've ported your number as the contract had ended.
This is nothing more than T-Mobile telling lies to get people to stay (which appears to have worked in your case) or charging those who aren't taken in by their rubbish a notice period charge they aren't entitled to.0 -
thanks for info buscape another thing looking through t&c online of tmobile I can't give them 30 days notice in my last 30 days as I'm still in minimum contract so they will charge me.... that can't be right can it0
