T-Mobile Retentions

  • Hi all, my first post in MSE so :hello: :hello:
Ok first of all what a great thread, nothing better than trying to squeeze all the monies from a big company like T-Mobile!

I was basically looking for a bit of advice, I am 21yrs old and have been with T-mobile for like 4 years through my mums account. My phone is due for renewal on 17th August (20 days time). I am fairly clueless about phone contracts and how to get the best one and have been on the phone to them asking for a Samsung Galaxy S3, because mine is "broken" (just me wanting a nice phone quickly). No such luck. :wall:

    Now, I am paying £25 a month for 900mins/UnltmdTXTS/UnltmdInternet
which I personally am pretty happy with, TM has said I can have the S3 if i pay a £37.53 termination fee and then pay £33 a month for Unlimited everything. So obv I told them where to go :)

Reading through this thread, as far as I can see, the best way to go about things is wait until 17th august, ringing them using 150 and using the options to get through to someone who i can get my PAC code off. Now hopefully they will put me through to retentions and thats where the fun starts :) is that right??

after that, ideally I would want the S3 for around what Im paying now, for about what plan im on now...and to get the handset for as least £££'s as possible.

    So my Q's are:
    1) Is it worth calling up before the upgrade to see if i can get it early?
    2) What is the best things to say to retentions to get the best deal
    3) are there any similar plans to what im on now that i can quote to them

    4) Is my plan to pretend to leave right to do? If not what is?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me ill be very grateful.

I can upgrade now on t-mobile and as I want the Samsung Galaxy S3, I called the upgrade line and was offered....the same deal that Joe Public can get - the full monty deal at £33pm. I've been with T-Mobile for over 4 years and I don't receive a loyalty bonus...or any kind of loyalty discount so it seems. So I went through to retentions - I wanted the same deal that I've seen from 3rd party supppliers of free handset 300 mins, unlimited texts and 750MB downloads. The T-Mobile response - we cant match that, the £33 deal is the best they can offer, goodbye. So I asked for my PAC code.

A few days later, I popped into Carphonewarehouse just to check if they could do anything on an upgrade and rather suspiciously, T-Mobile told them that I'm not eligible for an upgrade.

So much for loyalty. I'm off to order my Giff Gaff PAYG SIM.

  • My upgrade date was yesterday (29th) and I rang t-mobile to see what they could offer. My current deal was £20pm for 600 mins, unlimited txts and Unlimited Internet and I had a Wildfire. Anyway I asked for a HTC One which they told said would be free if I took out a £36pm full monty plan!!!! Anyway I said no chance and the T-Mobile guy actually advised me to go look at mobile.co.uk or buymobile.net to look for an upgrade as T-Mobile wouldnt match it!! I rang back 10 mins later and went through to cancellations to request my PAC, after speaking to someone in a foreign call centre to start I was transferred to another guy who said that as I was a high valued customer they didnt want to lose me and offered me the phone for free with 300 mins (I only ever use about 200) unlimited txts, unlimited internet (750mb download) for £20pm. Decided to take the deal as from looking around best I could do was the same deal online for £22pm.
Thanks to all that post competitions :)

Find how much minutes/texts/data you have been using over the last year or so and look for a contract that meets these needs. You might find you don't need as much as you thought.

    Yes.

How much are you willing to pay for the phone?

    So my Q's are:

    1) Is it worth calling up before the upgrade to see if i can get it early?
Not if you want the best deal.
    2) What is the best things to say to retentions to get the best deal
Tell them what deals you've found and get them to beat it.
    3) are there any similar plans to what im on now that i can quote to them
Try uswitch, Money supermarket and o mio.
    4) Is my plan to pretend to leave right to do? If not what is?
It's right, but be prepared to leave if they aren't willing to beat what another network can offer you.

currently got 2 htc wildfires for £15.50 per month each. gets me unlimited data, 300 mins and 300 texts ( might be unlimited texts, but as i never use more than 50 i wouldnt know) and looking to upgrade both. Mrs flybynight has decided that she fancies the htc desice c , mostly coz ti is the same size as the one she has, but with a faster processor. I, as the gadget master, really like the look of the HTc one X. this is purely for the quad core aspect of it, or id go for the one s. i know i am going to end up paying a bit more a month, what are the chances with t mobile? of getting em both for under £35?

I just googled a comparison site for you :)

Depending on what you need the One X is available 'free' at £20 a month and the Desire C is £13

One X deals compromised mins vs data but the Desire package is completely sweet

    Both 2 years

Be interested to see what TMobile offer you when you ask for your PAC......

The One X can be had for £18.73 with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 750Mb data with T-Mobile with redemption cashback and the Desire C can be had for £11 a month on Orange with 400 minutes, unlimited texts and 750Mb data, also including redemption cashback, which equals £29.73 a month if you do the redemptions.

If you can't be bothered with redemption, the Desire C is available for £17.25 on T-Mobile with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 750Mb data including automatic (no redemption needed) cashback and the One X can be had for £23.50 with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 750Mb data again with T-Mobile and automatic cashback which equals £40.75 a month for both.

To take the deals with T-Mobile you will have to cancel your current contracts and sign up as new customers in the deals above or if you want to keep your number you will have to port your number to another network and port back to T-Mobile on the new contracts.

I'll be ringing up tomorrow. My 'upgrade' isn't due until October... I originally got a £25pm 24month contract for a HTC Desire HD, unfortunately my gf dropped my DHD some months a go and the glass shattered. And I've been using a Nokia 710 since then.

The contract I'm on is 600 min, unlimited text and internet (3GB, the old I've got an Android phone change my data usage thing), and ideally I'd like to keep the same data plan or move onto their Full Monty plan... either sim only or try and get an S3 out of them. I get good coverage with T-Mobile both at home and in uni, and I use an awful lot of data, so only them, Three and Giff Gaff have 'unlimited' data usage.

Just annoying that I'm paying £25pm when their Full Monty is only £21 a the moment, Three's One Plan is cheaper etc etc

Any idea on what I could get out of them?

Not very much. You need to wait until you're in the last 30 days of your minimum term, you don't have any bargaining power until then.

My 18mths was up with them today. Gave them a call - bearing in mind my monthly bill is £150 on flext 35 due to the amount of international calls I make - and basically they could reduce it the £20 - absolute rubbish!! off to hunt a better deal and someone that wants my money lol
I'm confused with you. What makes them able to reduce the £ 20 to £ 150 bill?
