T-Mobile Retentions

My contract expires in April so I rang them up to speak to them the other day. There was a lot of options to choose from when listening to the menu. I think I chose 'If you're thinking of leaving T-Mobile, press whatever.' Would it have been Retentions that I was talking to then? Is it best to go straight to retentions or speak to upgrades first?
Oh, I'm looking to get a Lumia 800, with around about 300 mins, 300 texts on a 24 month contract for around £20. (Not sure about the data usage - have logged into My Account on My Tmobile but I can't find where it says what data usage I'm currently on. I just browse anyway). Looking around the prices on the internet, this seems pretty do-able. Has anyone had any success getting the Lumia 800 for around £20?0 -

I would phone upgrades first and ask them what is the best deal you can do on the Lumia. If they can't match what you've found elsewhere then say that. If they still can't match it say you're thinking of leaving then and they will put you through to retentions who might be able to give you what you want.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
Oh thanks, Ruby Eskimo - that's exactly what I needed to know. Now, how do I get through to upgrades? When I rang T-mobile up there was such an array of options given that I didn't know which one to press. Last time I did it, I think in the end I opted for 'If you're thinking of leaving T-Mobile, press whatever.' Was that the Upgrades department or the Retention one, do you reckon?
Congratulation on your engagement, by the way.0 -

I am not the type to upgrade my phone. had the same one for over 4 years but still pay £20 pm for 600mins and 400 texts!! so i ring them today to get a deal on iphone and they tried to sell me the full monty package which is £36 pm and everything u get with it is great. however vodaphone via CPW is doing one for £36 pm as well. 600mins unltd texts and 2gb of wifi. but the phone is free.
i asked tobile if they could do me a deal and was told they dont do them on iphones, so she just handed me over my pac code to move network! should i try again or do you think they dont give any discounts for iphone? not sure what to do now.0 -

Don't worry skizeewoo, this is absolute rubbish - they did the exact same thing to me. I rang up upgrades and they refused to give me any offers. I then asked for my PAC code and they told me I would be charged for having it before my contract ended (I called when I had one month left so I was eligible to upgrade). So I said I would call back a month later. Instead, I called back that evening and selected the 'thinking of leaving T-Mobile' option on the phone menu rather than the upgrades one, and that lady said she was very sorry, they wouldn't do iphone deals but she gave me my PAC for free, no questions asked. They then waited three days and I had four missed calls from them in one afternoon (I wasn't ignoring them deliberately, I was just busy at work). The final guy I spoke to was from 'Customer Loyalty' and he offered me the iphone 4S for £36pm, 600mins, 500 texts and a free booster, crucially with no upfront cost or I could have the iphone 4 8gb for £30pm, no upfront cost, 600mins and 500 texts and the booster - less than what I was paying with my blackberry.
In the end I went for the second option because I wasn't too bothered about the suri thing and the better camera. Still, pretty happy - I knew they were lying about the deals thing and was glad that I was proved right!0 -

Just upgraded last night. Got a HTC Sensation XE with 300min, 300 texts and unlimited internet on an 18month contract for £25 a month. I had to pay £10 for the phone. I think it's quite a good deal. Couldn't find anything similar with other providers.
Most of them were at least £30.:hello:0 -
If you can afford to by the phone up front it's 400 quid on O2 PAYG- even with O2's Blackberry tariff it may be worth a look as T-Mobile seem not to budge on Blackberrys.
I replied above to say that they gave it to me for £20 for the handset and upped my minutes for free so I'm still paying £35 a month for unlimited texts, unlimited internet, blackberry services and 1500 minutes.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -

thankyou schnowball. the woman i spoke to in upgrades didnt even pass me over or put me on hold. she just sounded really p***ed off that i was asking for an iphone. probably because i have never had a 'good' phone before with them so y should i now attitude! i wouldnt mind but i havent had a phone from them for over 4 years and even then i choose a basic models. i am into photography thats y i want the 4s as i have read reviews of it and its easier than carrying around my slr! she tried to tell me nokia phones have better cameras and the 4 is just as good so i gave up and just took the pac code. :eek:will wait and see a couple of days then. if i dont hear from them i will go to vodaphone and get their one. shame becasue apart from the 99 quid upfront its really a good deal. i just dont have a spare 100 quid and if i did i would prob have a few more spare 100 quids and by one from apple!0
