any suggestions on a simple phone thats been around a few months, so has gone thro its teething probs?
would ideally like 300 texts and 200 mins for as little as poss, how should I approach O2?0 -
Hi Newcastlebelle
Phone up 202 from your O2 hanset for free and explain that you are coming to the end of your contract.
Refuse whatever they offer you and say that, although you are happy with O2, you are going to try Phones4U, dialaphone etc and see what deals the other networks are offering, so you might as well close your account at the end of the contract........so ask for your PAC code to give to your new phone company, so that you can retain your number.
I did this and after a few days I was contacted by O2's "outward call centre".
They are people dedicated to retaining customers and can offer extreme deals, that customer services and the retention dept can't even see on their screens, let alone have the authority to offer.
I ended up with:-
230 mins
400 texts
and free calls of any length at any time, to other O2 mobiles (pay monthly or pay as you go) which all of my family and most friends are on.
I had a choice of new handsets....
Sony C702 or W890i
Samsung G600 or U800
Nokia 6500 classic or slide
among others
All for £10 per month for 18 months.
If I chose not to take a new handset and just keep my existing one, they would credit my account with £100
Which brings it down to £4.45 per monthMortgage and totally Debt Free as of December 2008.
boy does it feel good! Thanks MSE for all the tips and advice0 -
I had a similar situation to fatdickie, I phoned to get the pac code. The next day, they phoned back saying they were having problems texting the pac code, but just before they give me it how about one last offer?
So I'm now SIM only, 200 minutes and 400texts with free O2 to O2 for £10 a month for 18 months. And because I didn't get a phone, I have £150 credit to my account too.
I definitely found it easier when they called me, because it was them trying to sell me something. When I phoned originally to cancel, it felt like I was doing all the pushing.0 -
Evening all.
I am currently on an 18 month contract with 02, which ends 04 November. I am paying £35p/m for 600mins and 500 texts. My questions are do I have to wait until 1 month before it ends to ring about trying to get a better deal. The minutes and texts I have suit me just about right, but I would ideally like to be paying no more than £20 or £25 a month. I am a novice at mobiles, but from what I have been reading I should ring and ask for my PAC code, and then wait to see what they offer? Do you have to pay for this code, or are you entitled to it at the end of a contract?
Thanks for reading! Any advice appreciated.0 -
You need to call O2 retentions 30 days before your contract is over, which in your case would be on 4 or 5 October. Before this the retentions people can't see the 'loyalty deals', apparently (I found this out when I called them yesterday, one day earlier than I should have; I am not sure if this is really tha case or they were just trying to fob me off then).
You do not have to pay for your PAC, however if you use it you still have to pay your line rental up to the last day of your contract.
If you don't need a new phone by the way, the minutes and texts you have now can be had on Simplicity for £20 per month, you might be able to negotiate a discount on that. 600 minutes/1000 texts plus an unlimited bolt-on (for texts, landline calls, O2-O2 calls or data) according to previous posts can be haggled to £20/month with all but the highest priced phones.0 -
Hi all, Wondering if anyone had any problems negotiating due to they have O2 broadband. I rang up customer service and all they offered me was:
600mins
1000text
unlimited web browsing.
I have 200mins 400 text a month and I don't use it at all of it at the moment I said why would I want more minutes and text. he said it was the best deal as I had 02 Broadband so i asked for my PAC.0 -
I am gutted!!
Ive been a lurker for some years now, but I need some advice now!
Ive been with o2 since December 05 (although I was originally with them between 2003 and 2005 which the woman said they recognise as loyalty because I left them for only a matter of months); I was originally on the following contract:
500 Minutes, 100 Texts, 100Kb Web, £35.00 per month - as you can imagine I went over this a fair few times and had bills of £70+...
So last October, I decided enough was enough and haggled. Got myself a nice tariff:
400 Minutes, 500 Texts, 1MB Web, 12 Month Contract, Free N95, £25.00 per month.
So, this year, I quite like the look of the Ignito and seeing the £20.00 Ignito plans being had on here, I decided to bargain for it... however the best I can get out of o2 is:
1200 Minutes (which they know I wont use)
1000 Text Messages
Unlimited Web Bolt On
Free XDA Ignito
18 month contract (bummer)
Originally, they said £35 per month was the best deal they could give me (I gave the upgrades team a chance, but they were useless, said I wished to cancel straight away after getting referred to retentions), then I phoned back and it dropped to £30 per month, then I phoned back and got it down to £27 per month. Every time I have insisted id rather have 600 minutes and pay around £20 per month (quoted an offer I have had from Phones4u which works out almost the same (600 mins, unlimited texts), but on Orange for £18.75 per month after cashback).
I simply cannot get the 600 minutes/1000texts/unlimited web/XDA Ignito for £20.00 per month out of them!!!! I have phoned up 3 times since and every time its the same offer, thats the best offer they can make for that handset...
I have now called their bluff and requested my PAC code, im not 100% sure about moving to Orange to be honest, but do you guys think I should take the £27 per month offer and give up trying, or continue to call their bluff and end up on Orange (which means I will also become liable for an extra £5.00 per month on my o2 Broadband).
I got my Sky+ reduced to £3.00 last week with no hassle for 6 months simply because I wanted to cancel (got a free TUTV box from my sister) and last year it only took one phonecall and 10 minutes to get a cracking deal out of o2, so I went into it on a high, but this year although they have made an excellent offer for the minutes etc, they just dont seem to want to budge on giving me the 600 mins for £20.00 per month!!!0 -
Has anyone got a really good deal with Blackberry on O2? I'm looking to upgarde soon in a few days...0

Hello all
I'm approaching the end of my 18mth pay monthly contract with O2. I noticed that quite a few companies are offering free laptops or lcd tv's if you sign up with them. Am I likely to have to leave O2 and sign up with another network to get one of these offers or is there anyway you can approach it to stay with O2 and get the gift? My usual bill is around £30 a month.
I'm not too fussy about my new handset, something like a Nokia 6300 would suit me fine.0 -
Just did my tariff change.
Was on 125mins/200txt for £15/month, no phone, 12 month contract.
Switched to Simplicity 20, no contract, 600mins/1000txt, unlimited data, to use with my iPhone (the original, metal backs ftw). Tried pushing for a discount but this seems to be the best deal if I want a plan with unlimited data and no long contract.0
