I don't think you can get discounted deals on the iPhone. O2 have an exclusive, plus they seem to have some sort of agreement with Apple to keep the prices up. However other handsets will likely be available with some form of discount.
To get to retentions, dial 100 or 202 from your O2 phone and follow the options to cancel your contract.0 -

Hi all,
Just come to the end of my e2save contract on O2 (managed to get all cashback) but decided to go with ASDA mobile for a while as I'm not a heavy user. To cut a long story short O2 have now offered me a flat £5 per month for 275 mins & 275 texts (18 mth contract.)
I'm keeping my existing handset, but will need a new one soon - does anyone know where I can find cheap new handsets?
Thanks,
Geoff.0 -
Hopefully there will be some retention deals when my iPhone 3G contract finishes.0

A lot can depend on how long you have been with them, and your usage, BUT an awful lot depends on who you get to speak to.
Contact them again, I will send a pm with some details that may help.

Hi guys.
Have finally got my deal with O2.
They were quite nice on the phone and had a chat with a decent bloke. He was really honest - Even said he didn't know what some things were. Really did feel like he wasn't trying to bull**** me.
Anyway, got offered the standard £20pm for 600mins, 1000 texts and a bolt on. Free C902, Nokia 6220 or N78. Pretty much any phone I wanted apart from the N95 8gig (which I wanted). The guy wanted me to wait for the N96 - said I could have that at £25pm, although couldnt confirm this in writing so I was dubious.
I ended up stumping up another fiver a month for the N95, as I want a big screen for sports tracker software on my bike. So £25 a month, which I thought was OK. Plus, I have my 14 days to return it. By which time, they should have the N96, which I can bargain for hopefully.
Thanks to everyone for posting. *Really* helpful!0 -
Just got my upgrade. Got the standard 600mins, 1000 texts, free 02 to 02 and a free tocco. Couldn't decide between the tocco or the n95 8gig, but I couldn't get the N95 8gig for free so went for the tocco.
I'm happy with that as I was looking to get my line rental down to £20.Sigless0 -
hello all!
just had the wrangle with o2!
Vodafone are offering 600 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited surfing for £20 a month with a nokia 6210 if you fancy a change.
I originally got quoted tripe by retentions. So i rang vodafone and they offered me the above. Rang retentions and aked for my PAC, she asked me why I said vodafone have offered me the above. She couldn't beat it, and grudgingly accepted the PAC request.
This was yesterday, today O2 ring up and a guy asked why i was leaving etc. i said you cant beat the above so i am off.. get put on hold for 5 mins... yes we can match that 600 mins, 1000 texts, unlimited surfing for £20 but a basic phone. I said i wanted a new phone ideally... another long pause... he offered me iether the 02 Xda Ignito or the Nokia 6220 for free!
So i long paused him back! And said ok i will have the Ignito.
Pretty good deal that!!!0 -

There's eBay for fairly good prices, although it's buyer beware and after-sales service is naturally slightly lower in quality. Sometimes second-hand handsets can be found really cheap and you can find bargains in good condition.
On the less risky retail front, Expansys sell SIM free handsets but are rather expensive, there are also sometimes good deals on Play.com for SIM free phones.0
