Spoke to O2 retentions and mentioned the above offer from vodafone directsales. She wasn't aware of the diamond being free on that tariff but went away for a bit. Came back and:

    - O2 XDA indigo/ignito (whatever it is called with them)
    - 600 anytime mins
    - 1000 texts
    - Unlimited web
    - 18months

    :money::money::money:£20pm :money::money::money:

Only worrying thing was that I got the correct phone and not some old XDA crap, but no indigo seen on the web so must have been my hearing.

    I was on for £25pm, 500 mins + 3months rollover, 500 texts @12months.

Great upgrade and easy as nails. I just said that I was thinking of leaving now as I have the great deal from vodafone retentions. Last years free SE handset was pants and i now need to web and a smartphone because of work, plus the vodafone offer is very tempting. Never even mentioned PAC just 'Im thinking of leaving because of SAID tempting Vodafone offer'.

    Good luck out there.

Rest easy.... "Xda Ignito" is O2's brand name for the Diamond phone

    Hi,

I was on an 12 month O2 contract with 400 mins and 1000 texts, which they said i could upgrade today.

rung up first thing, had my heart set on the Nokia N78, also had my heart set on another 12 month contract, which isnt happening any more!?!?!!!!!

but to get the N78, have to upgrade to online 35 tariff (600 mins, 1000txts) plus free internet bolt on, but she could only give me 5 pounds off a month, this will be my third contract with O2, my two previous were 12 month, with the one i have just finished getting 10 pounds off each month!

i said to her (spoke to trish in retentions (option 2,2 on the O2 customer service menu)) that i was a but disappionted my discount is going down, and tried to get another bolt on, but she said i had picked a too expensive phone to get an amazing deal on.

do you rekon this is a good deal? i went ahead with it this morning, so i can still cancel it with the 14 day cooling off period if i change my mind, but just wanted to see if you think this is any good?

I'm on 600 mins/1000 texts/unlimited internet for 25 quid a month. If the deal offered is somehow a 12 month deal I pesonally would ponder taking it if you need a new phone every 12 months. If its an 18 month contract then the minimum I would take is 20 quid a month for that tariff:). SIM only would be another option if you wanted to bide your time:).

i rung for pac code yesterday and explained it was because i was waiting on the n95 8GB and they say none in stock, not do they know when due in.

Said i'd have it by text in 48 hrs.

Phoen call this afternoon, missed it, but they rung back with in half an hour to "beg" with me to stay with them.

they still didn't know when it would be in, loads of waffle went on trying to get me another phone. What about the normal n95, blah blah.

Siad it didn't have as good reviews blah blah.

Eventually i agreed to take the orginal N95 free, 600 mins, 1000 texts, unlimited web £20 a month 18 month contract. (good given when I spoke to them before i was offered £25 a month- I was on £40 tarrif reduced to £30, 12 month contract, 400 mins and 500 texts)

It's still not what I want but I was concerned if I moved to voda and then didn't like the phone. This way I get to try the phone for the 14 days and if i decide it's for me I can send it back anf then move to voda for the 8GB version.

Or if it's no good and i don't like I can contact them and find another suitable phone to try. ;)

Are they offering 12 month deals to existing customers or do you really have commit to 18 months:)? Know its been asked before but if a lot of people are hacked off they may recind their greedy ways;).

sorry they didn't offer i did mention how it was awful having to go for 18 months. I even suggested paying ofr the 8GB but still not in stock. I've been with them for at least 5 years ( i can remember that many phones, probably longer, the other phones just don't spring to mind)

Are you going to say anything pragmatically useful or carry on this unfocused bashing of the firm?

For one thing, the 12 month contracts are £5 a month more for the same number of minutes. For another, there is not usually a free bolt-on on 12 months deals, so the free internet might go out of the picture.

Then the discount available might be less on 12 months than 18 months. And for more upmarket phones, which some people are discussing, this is easier to amortise over a slightly longer period, so any extra cash for the phone might be less.

Not everyone needs a £300 or £400 phone. An underlying £11.67 a month without a phone for 600 minutes and 500 texts and a free add-on is not terrible. Adding only a modest phone comes out of the notional £150 and the rest of the cash still goes in the account. And for going abroad, My Europe Extra can be added free, for free incoming calls. And home broadband added on for £2.50 a month where available. So you might think the network greedy, but not everyone will agree.

I feel that is a little bit harsh- and you do sound like you work for O2 with all those figures. 12 month contracts are significantly higher than £5 a month more in comparison. if you can find them nowdays What I am trying to say is that O2 really are trying to lead the marketplace towards the 24 month term which exists as a standard in the USA and take away the choice of the consumer.
I do add to these threads and to say that I am unfocused is just plain absurd and flaming for no real apparent reason. I am always considered and try to help people out whenever possible:).

O2 at the moment being the exclusive iPhone carrier in addition to being the biggest mobile telco in UK by customer numbers, would be in the best position to try and lead the market. Rationally, from the business POV, if you're the most in demand, you would rationally try and lock consumers in as long as possible and minimise their choice; this would not necessarily make them happy but you would get more revenue. Trying to increase revenue at the customers' expense is a fundamental raison d'etre of doing business, in the same way that trying to minimise spending at corporations' expense is for MoneySavers.

It is up to O2's competition to spoil their game. And the hordes of consumers clamouring to switch away, of course :p
