After considering the iphone i've decide the N95 8GB is the phone for me.

I went in to an O2 shop and the assistant was very helpful and explained that the price had gone up because they have subsidised the iphone.

he said that instore i wouldn't be able to get the N95 8Gb unless I went to a £75 a month tarrif, but said if i call retentions they would probably do on £30/£35.

Sure enough I called retentions on friday, said I wanted PAC code, they didn't ask what deal I was getting from Vodafone, but said that if it was in stock they could do 600 mins, unlimted texts/browsing for £25.

However, it wasn't in stock and they weren't sure if it was coming back in. He wondered if it was due to the N96 coming out soon.

We went through other phones and still came back to the N95 8GB being what I wanted.

I asked why it was in stock onlin if I paid for the phone but not available to upgrade to. He didn't really answer as such, just that they didn't want to lose me and it wasn't in stock at the mo.

I like the other poster don't really want to leave O2 as i have been with them for years.

Even if I was to pay £90 for the phone it work out about the same as i could get from vodafone. i lef tit that i woudl give them a few days and see if it had come back into stock.

They do have the phones in stock but only on the £75 tariffs. I have checked up on other networks these being orange and vodafoneand you can get the N95 8 gig for free on a £35 monthly tariff.

It seems to me that O2 have no interest in trying to keep their so called loyalty customers and they'd rather let them go else where then to keep them by offering good deals. I think i am going to ring then again and tell them that unless they can help me out then i will be taking my custom else where to a better network with better customer service lol

The customer service is a bit hit and miss, I want an Iphone for my next upgrade but can't justify the 18 month contract because of the customer service.

I've heard that Apple have told 02 not to have the N96 as they don't want people who are wanting an iphone to then change their mind and want a N96.

So, Voda, Tmob and Orange will have the N96.

Which is a shame as I was wanting to give Nokia one more go with the N96 after 5 useless N95's I had...

02 only seem to be doing 18/24 month contracts now. But in the long run it works out cheaper than their 12 month ones.

Which is mighty annoying as I like to upgrade my phone every year...
  • I'm currently on the online 20 contract paying £20 a month for 75 minutes and 250 texts. I'm happy with my current handset (an XDA Orbit 1) but am a bit bored with it. Just got off the phone from o2 retentions and been offered 600 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited mobile internet for £20 a month. I can either take a new handset (Nokia E51 for free) or £150 credit to my account.
I'm a bit stumped as whilst this is a very good deaql I was hoping to get the £20 down a bit. I tried asking if there was any way it could be made cheaper but the customer adviser said this wasn't possible. I don't use much over my 75 minutes and no-where near my 250 texts but it would be nice to have a few more of each but the main thing I'm after would be the mobile internet. What do you ladies and gents think? Its a very good deal and I have to admit I'm tempted to take it up but I can't decide. Opinions would be more than welcome!

My contract is up for renewal tomorrow and will be calling cancellations to hopefully get a deal out of them.

I have seen from other posters that O2 are offering the E51 for free, but I can't find this phone on their site. Are these phones exclusive to the retentions team?

I'll be calling retentions tomorrow, currently on a discounted 500 tariff: 500 mins and 1000 texts down to £20 p/m from £35.

After researching the E51 phone, if I get the same offer as you tomorrow then I will take it! Unlimited data (well 200MB fair usage per month) for me would be an excellent deal.

Well im mighty ****** off at O2, i called cancellations yesterday to see what deal i could haggle out of them. I figured it would be easy to get what i wanted considering ive been with them for 3 years on 3x12 month contracts and must have spent well over £1000 in this time. I also thought that it would be even easier if i gave them an earfull over last years "renewal" - (they offered me a free phone with no strings attatched because id been such a loyal customer, they swore it wasnt a renewal so i accepted. Then a week or so later i called up to negotiate my renewal and was informed by accepting the phone i had already renewed!)

So bearing all that in mind i was expecting an "easy-ride" but it turned into a nightmare, none of the phones i wanted were available and there is no release date on O2 yet (Omnia, INNOV8, C905, N96, HTC Diamond).

The best she could offer me was a C902 on with 1200 mins, 1000 texts + a free bolt-on of unlimited texts or internet for £30p/m (should be £45 to the average joe but i get £15 discount and have done for 2 years). Considering i currently pay £20 per month for 400 mins and 1000 texts i was somewhat disappointed, a 50% bigger bill just for an extra 800 mins and a free bolt-on with a phone i dont even want. She was adamant i wasnt entitled to anything more and when i quoted other peoples deals through O2 she said they werent possible, she was a !!!!!! Also she completely bulsh*tted me about my average monthly spend saying it was £25 wheras i calculate it to be just under £50!

I called back a few times today but have been unable to negotiate anything better, ive been offered this though - move onto a simplicity deal until the Omnia is released then have it free (allegedly) on the contract ive already been offered £30pm, 1200 mins, 1000 texts + free bolt-on

I want to spend £20 or less though :(

I think your going in with the wrong attitude. Ranting and raving just gets peoples backs up and they will then not go out of there way to get you a good deal. Be polite and then see what you can get.
