That was what I thought so if wanted to get a new phone could get a new contract and not worry too much on the costs of two phones

You have to stay on the same tariff for 9 months.

Now, i was trying to hold out for the n96, but no relase date has been mentioned.

From what I've read, it doesn't seem like o2 will be doing the Nokia N96.

    Hi all

Have been sent to this extremely helpful forum and hope people can give me some advice. Have been reading through the thread, although have forgotten the beginning to be honest!

I popped into an O2 shop last week and they advised me that i am able to upgrade, i said i'd take a book and look at phones and think about it. I have currently got a K800i which i am getting a little frustrated with so would like to change to to either a C902 or a Nokia N95 (8GB?).

I'm on an 'Online 25 Texter' tariff that i pay £19.99 for (I think the last time i upgraded i got £5 off my bill) and with that i get 220 mins and 500 texts. Now looking at some of my bills i rarely get anywhere near the 220 mins, although i have been close so would like to increase that slightly. I do however text alot, and although don't get too close to the 500 text i do know that i hold back a fair bit incase i do go over it. So would maybe like to double that at least or maybe unlimited?! As i have wandered over the £19.99 for a few months recently.

Have been with O2 for donkeys years, but i know that doesnt always count for anything. I have looked at some sites and looks like i have to pay for the phones if i was a new customer, just not sure what my next step should be? I have gone onto onecompare.com and there seem to be some great deals with companies but i dont like the idea of these cashback things...just want something simple and straightfoward.

Look forward to hearing your opinions. Sorry if it's a little basic, not really sure what i should be doing. Any other details needed to help, let me know.

I too have been closely following this thread.

Called a few days ago and adviser wouldnt really give me the deal I wanted, Wanted to double my current bill for same minutes etc or offer the simplicity tarrif, so asked for PAC code and he said ok! Called back the next day told retentions ,Id been with O2 for 5years n didnt really want to leave, he could offer me the deal I was lookin for but phone was out of stock! So was going to wait til it comes back in but they dont know when thatll be.

So called again today to check on the tocco avaliability, still out of stock apparently, so agreed on.......

    12month contract without a phone,
    200mins anytime
    500 texts
    unlimited 02 to 02
£15/month (which is what Ive been on minus O2 calls)
    But with £150 cashback!!
So for my years contract its going to cost me - £30! :D

Was cheeky and tried to get it down to £10 a month but think that was pushing it a bit! :money:

Oh and also asked to be put through to broadband people, retentions guy told me he could deal with that, and that if I stayed with O2 its onyl £7.50 a month but If I commited to another 12month contract he would give me broadband for free for a year!!

So I got a 12month phone contract and 12 month broadband for £30!!!
  • I'm on CPW O2. have called twice now, been offered

    1) 400mins 400txts, £10/mth (18mths)
    2) 200mins 400txts, free o2-o2 calls, £10/mth (18mths)
    3) 200mins 400txts, £30/mth 10mths free, (12mths - need to claim)
    4) 600mins 1000txts, £35/mth 14mths free, (18mths - need to claim)

    All without a phone.

I tried asking for credit (ppl here have got £150) on the £10 18mth one but the guy was pretty rude replying, "so you want to pay £30 for the whole 18mths??!!" and he said that CPW deals were exactly the same as those offered by O2 directly and that deal would never be given...shall i keep trying and ask for my PAC? What if they just agree to disconnect my number? I've read that several ppl here ask o2 for PAC and they phone you back, but will CPW do the same?

    Cheers

Any employee being rude,is enough to ask for your PAC,in my opinion,a letter to the CEO,telling him why you are leaving them.

o2 are really annoying, i was originally offered 600mins/1000texts with free bolt on, on a 18mth for £25pm with n95 8gb. I took it then i sent the phone back as i didn't really like it. a few days later i asked for samsung tocco. Now there saying its only free if i take out a £45 tariff.
so now im going to cancel.

Something is going on at O2 - I had a very similar experience. I returned a faulty SE C902 sent as part of a new contract, when I tried to fix a replacement I was told there were no more CE902s, nor any K series SEs and that if the CE902 came back into stock, or if I wanted an N95, it would have to be part of a £45 contract.

I asked for my PAC number, got it, have haven't heard a word from them since.

Looks like O2 has decided it wants to get rid of a lot of customers.

Firstly, I say read this whole thread and follow the advice in this forum.

Like I mentioned in a previous post (Page 31), I have been on a £35 per month contract (originally 250mins, 100texts then upgraded to 500mins, 250texts after 12months) since 2006. I have never upgraded. I spoke to Retentions (after being placed on hold for 13mins!) last week and stated that I want to upgrade and reduce the cost of my contract.

I stated that I wanted the Sony C902 but the advisor explained that I could only get it on a £45 per month contract. She proceeded to offer me another Sony phone and explained its features to me. I decided against it. I asked for the Samsung Tocco or Nokia N95 8GB and was told that it was out of stock. I then made my move...

I told her that Three were offering me a Sony C902 500 "mix n match" with free video calling for £18 per month. She said she would speak to her manager as I was a "high value customer". I then got offered:
    200mins, 400texts, unlimited O2 to O2 calls, free sky sports for 6 months - £20 per month.

I told the advisor that would it be possible to exchange the texts for more minutes because I wouldn't use that many texts. She said that she couldn't. I said that it was a great deal but I really wanted more minutes so she offered me:
    400mins, 500texts, unlimited O2 to O2 calls - £20 per month. I accepted!

I might have possibly got more but then I decided that I wouldn't need more.

I then asked about O2 broadband availability. The advisor offered me 8meg broadband for free for 12 months! I have to call back because I am currently buying a house and due to move very soon. I need to give my BT phone number when I get it. I have budgeted costs for my new house and I am now going to save £40 per month, which is a lot of money! All this in one phonecall!

    So I got:
    400mins
    500texts
    Unlimited O2 to O2 calls
    Free 8meg broadband
    Free Sony C902

    Here's my bit of advice:
1)Have a deal that you can compare O2 to. Use the Three deal that I mentioned above if necessary.

    2) Know how many mins and texts you want and what you are willing to pay for.

    3) Be very polite and kind. My advisor was brilliant (called me by my first name) and was very helpful.

4)If you don't like the deal they are offering, say that you need time to think about it. They may come back with a better offer.

BTW, thanks to everyone on this thread especially "Debtor" who replied to my post with his helpful advice. Good luck to everyone!

What you have posted is sound advice, especially the bit about being polite,as it can get you a long way.Manners cost nothing, and can get you a lot,as you have clearly found out.

I always try and interject a little humour as well,as I have found people more relaxed when in a humourous enviroment, and not the old British stiff upper lip attitude.

And having a comparison deal is a MUST HAVE,when trying to negotiate a deal, and I find patronising the network a bit, helps as well, like,"My friends on blah blah, and doesn't seem to have many problems," etc etc.

    Well done you.

  • 02 have just rang me up and after a bit of haggling offered me:
    1000 texts
    600 mins
    unlimited browsing

    for £20 per month.

As the phone I want (c905) isn't out at the mo, i'm using my current handset (k800i). The bloke reckoned I could just ring up at any time when it's released and they'd send me it free of charge.

Sounded too good to be true, so just wondered if anyone else had requested a phone that isn't out yet and whether or not they could upgrade for free when it was released?
