After quite a bit of haggling I've just agreed the following.
600 minutes
1000 texts
free mobile internet
free home broadband
samsung soul silver
18 month deal - £20 pcm
Well worth 2 phone calls and a lunch hour, hope this helps.0 -
Hi guys. Been reading with interest all of what you've had to say.
Couple of things... I'm currently on 02 texter 30. 1000texts (plus 1000 more bonus from last retention 'fight') and 400 x-net minutes for, you guessed it, £30.
Looking to better that and won't have a problem doing so. I've spent an average of £70 a month over the 18month contract (mainly due to calling a lot in America last month and having a bill of £390!!!).
Do they average your spend over the contract on upgrades, or notice that there is one massive bill?
Also, whilst bartering with them, I want to see if I can get an additional contract for my mum at a cut price. She's currently PayG and has bad credit so can't get her own. However, if I tell them I want to add a contract (probably simplicity), you think there is room for manouver? Could i possibly wrangle a second pay monthly contract with a phone for less price than the standard internet charge?
Oh yeah... and my contract doesn't technically end until 9th October, but the site says 'people who spend more could possibly upgrade earler'. You think they'd let me upgrade earlier, or should I wait?
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long winded remarks

I'm with O2 Carphone Warehouse coming to the end of my contract & I called retentions last week to ask for PAC code so I could shop around. I was offered a SIM only deal instead (but told that if I asked for the PAC I wouldn't be eligible for the offer) of 200 x-network anytime mins/month (not sure how many texts) with a credit of £300on a £25/month contract for 12 months. I was astounded at the £0/month overall cost and stupidly said I'd think it over. Doh!
Called back today to accept (and check the number of texts included) and was informed that the £25/month offer is for 75 minutes and 200 texts. She told me that her colleague had been mistaken as the 200 minute offer was £30/month . Do you think it's worth calling again to see if I can get the 1st offer again? It did seem a bit too good to be true and I suppose and overall cost of £5/month isn't much for 200 mins, but I'm not sure I'd go over 75 minutes very often if it's going to cost me £60 for the privilege (if I curb my calls a bit).
I'd also quite like to have some surfing time included (don't do much now but that's because I'm stingy) - although it's not overly important at the moment. But I've not asked about that.
Although I called Carphone Warehouse, shoudl I also be calling 02 directly to ask about deals?
It's worth asking.
I was previously on a 12 month £30/month contract with £120 cashback every quarter i.e. £0/month overall. When it came to upgrading this year, and as I wasn't bothered too much about having an ancient Sony Ericsson mobile, I asked if they could offer me the same contract again. The first few advisors who called said they could "only" offer me 9 months free, as I had already been on the 3x £120 cash back before. I wasn't too happy about this, so kept saying I'd have to think about it.
The odd thing is, I relented on the last call, and they passed me onto another department to sort out the paperwork. I explained to the next advisor that I didn't use the phone that much, and it wouldn't make sense for me to upgrade if they only offered me 9 months free. He then gave me the 12 month free contract I asked for at the start of the call.
Bolt on for "unlimited" internet is probably your best option if you can get the free contract - only £7.50/month. Terms and conditions from the O2 website:

I finally called up o2 the other day after about 7 months on simplicity £15/month, aside from calling my partner who is also on o2 I use about 30 mins/month out of my 200 ... I just told them I wasn't getting my money's worth and thought I'd pay less on pay as you go. After reading this thread I was really expecting to have to haggle and call back a few times, but the woman I spoke to said "let's see what we can do for you..." She didn't say it but the impression I got was "let's see what the computer says..."
She said I could get the standard £25/month 18 month contract (200 mins/400 texts, same as what I've got now) for £10/month because I'm an existing customer, and £100 credit to my bill in place of a new phone ... so £0 over the next 10 months, then £10 a month for the next 8 months, averaging £4.44 a month!
I know some people on here have got a lot more, but as I'm not a big spender (and on simplicity) I wasn't expecting much, I really just wanted to get my bill under £10/month. So I'm pretty pleased at what they offered me straight off!0 -
morning all....my upgrade was due today so called in and said what i want, which was originally the samsung toco. they were out of stock but were willing to match other offers i had found. But then thought to myself that do i really wanna leave the 'nokia' brigade?? I decided not to and asked for a quote on the Nokia E51 which i also liked. Based on my current usage, the lovely Lisa offered:
150m
100t
unlimited 02 to 02
free E51
18 Month contract
the above was offered at £25 per month.
Based on the deals i've seen on this thread, i refused this right away and said i need more mins, text and want to pay less. her next offer was:
200m/ 200t/ unlimited 02 calls, free phone- all for £20 p/m.
we were getting there, but i said i still needed more mins/texts and wanted to pay less...so her apparently 'final' offer was:
400m/ 1000t/ free o2 calls/ free voicemail/ free phone- all for £15 per month!
now that i was happy with and accepted. i pay £35 p/m now for less mins and less texts and my aim was to bring it down to £15 and see what i can get...i probably could've got a bit more, but i'm at work and i'm happy with the deal...just shows that persistence helps! the nokia e51 is a great business phone as well, great reviews and nokia's are always the most easy phones to deal with, so i am very happy!!!0 -
I just called up to try and upgrade (my contract ends in Oct and was told I could renew some time in August) and they said that they could offer me 3 options:
- £150 credit on my account
- changing my tariff to £20 per month and retaining my same tariff (Currently on £35pm, 600anytime/network mins, 2000weekend mins, 200 text)
- A new 18 month contract
I thought that all the above were kinda drab and since I'm waiting for the new Nokia n96 phone to come out, I decided to wait. The operator then offered to change my tarriff to the £20pm one and make it contract-free (ie. I can quit anytime or upgrade anytime!) So I was like "erm, sure, why not!"
So at present I'm paying £15 less for the same tarriff and service and can upgrade whenever I want!
I think anyone who has been with o2 for longer than 12months on an 18month contract should try and see if they can pay less as this shows that it's quite possible for them to reduce it.Target Savings: Deposit on my first property by September 2010>>>[Savings: 40.00% Complete]<<<[Debt: £0.00p]0 -
Hi everyone, just thought i'd ask your opinions on what to do when im eligable for my upgrade in a couple of weeks.
Ive been with o2 for 3 years now (3x 12 month contracts) and every year up until the last one ive managed to get some fantastic deals out of retentions for myself and other people - most notably 2 years ago when the K800i was first released, i got it for free on the day of launch from o2 (who were the first people to get it), plus £150 credit, plus they reduced my line rental at the time to £15 per month (+£5p/m insurance) and doubled my texts and mins to 500 texts and 400 mins.
PLEASE READ THIS PART...
Last year however i got a call from o2 offering me the new SE w880i for free as i'd spent so much money with them over the previous 2 years, there was apparantly no strings attatched just a free phone. I even asked them to clarify several times that it WAS NOT a retention deal and just a generous freebie prior to my upcoming retentions call. However, about a week after recieving the free phone i found out my contract HAD been renewed, id not had the chance to negotiate any kind of deal or get extra minutes or texts, or even reduce my line rental. I called o2 up and after a very long and heated discussion the upshot was they wouldnt budge as i had entered into the new contract, i was also told id recieve no offers or deals anymore if i stayed on a 12 month contract! I could only do one of the following -
# upgrade to an 18 month contract for a minor increase in minutes and texts
# jump up to the next tier - £5 extra each month for an extra 500 texts
# shut up and get on with it
Considering that i REALLY didnt want an 18 month contract and i needed more texts i upgraded to the next tier. Plus i was in the middle of moving house and couldnt be doing with the hassle of taking it further.
Then back in February i tried to upgrade my minutes and texts further, (400 mins and 1000 texts wasnt enough), but was told i could only upgrade my texts, at a hefty cost of another £16 p/m for just 100 more! So i decided to take out a 2nd contract, this time with T-Mobile - free Samsung G600, £60 credit (300 mins OR 600 texts), £20p/m, 18 month contract. They've put me through hell though, the reception is abysmal EVERYWHERE and it takes hours for messages to come through sometimes, plus im often "unreachable" when people try to call me. I dont think theres any way out of it though is there?
Anyway, back to o2 - still feeling bitter from being screwed over last year im determined to get a great deal this time around, any ideas on what i could get out of them?
Any help at all will be greatly appreciated0 -
Debtor- did you call 202? or did you speak to retentions? I've just called them as I'm due for upgrade now and they're really pushing these Simplicity things! Was told categorically that there are no 12 month contracts anymore and they offered me 18mth contract/75 mins/250 txts for £20 a month.........that's rubbish and the phones they offered wren't all that either!!
What now? Should I call them back and demand more???LOL0
