Leaving aside the posts above re the sound economics of the GiffGaff deal you should consider that if you use a lot of data then you will get a better/faster service as an O2 contract customer than you will on the GiffGaff service (even though it is part of the O2 company), that's one reason the prices are lower.0

Ah, theres the catch
Data service is rather important to me. Lots to think about.

Who is giffgaff then?
As for the money, £42 split £22 line rental and £20 handset over 24 months means I'm getting a phone worth over £700 for £480 with no upfront cost and unlimited everything (pretty much). Factor in that I can guarantee good coverage and avoid the hassle of switching. Thinking I can sell my iPhone 4S which is in fairly good condition.
I'm a dream customer, I called them to downgrade to a SIM only and they've flogged me the newest iPhone on a two year contract :rotfl:
The iPhone 5s 16 gb costs £549 direct from Apple so someone is quoting you wrong with over £700 and don't forget it won't be worth nearly the same in 24 months.
O2 quoted me £26.50 for renewal of simplicity sim with same unlimited texts and minutes with 5gb data for 12 months but I'm moving to Tesco for similar deal at £20.Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0 -
Everything unlimited costs 1x£15 at Virgin.
This sweetdeal means borrowing £549 for 2 years at 18% APR.
I think Apple offer 0% for 10 months or 15% for 24-48 months.0 -
It is a terrible deal considering you don't need a new handset and you only need 100 mins a month!0

Hi folks,
Just wondering if I could ask for your help. Basically, I'm just coming to the end of an o2 contract, with an iPhone 4s 16gb. I'm on a £37/month contract.
My plan is to just go for o2 Simplicity as an upgrade. I'll then separately buy an iPhone 4s 32gb in mint condition from CEX.
My sums are:
+ O2 Simplicity @ £16/month on 12-month contract
- Quidco £45 cashback
+ iPhone 4s 32gb (locked to o2) for £310 from CEX
- £124 for my iPhone 4s 16gb (locked to o2) when traded in at CEX
= £333 over the year
= £27.75 per month
Is there a trick I'm missing? Searched loads of places for a straightforward upgrade, but it looks like the iPhone 4s 32gb on o2 upgrade has been discontinued at the places I've looked at. Would it worth asking o2 if they do have any 'lying around' as such that I could still upgrade to? Is such a thing possible?
Thanks in advance of your advice!
PS - my reasoning for doing this!: I'm finding that I don't have enough space on my 16gb phone anymore to keep up with all that I want on there and I really want another 4s (and not the 5 upwards or another phone). I'd also like to save money on my contract.0 -
What's your average month call, text and data usage as there may be cheaper SIM free contracts available to you. For £2/month more you can get Virgin VIP Plus which also includes 0800, 0845 and 0870 numbers and on a 30 day contract (attractive if you use these 08 numbers).0

Just a note:
I see a lot of people looking for high-end phones in the £30-£40 range - on the Galaxy S4 and HTC One and several other upmarket phones, EE are doing £38/month + £50 upfront for 20GB of their "double speed" 4G data + free calls/texts while roaming in Europe, which is pretty good considering the deals offered by Voda/02 and is on a vastly superior network.
It makes me regret going with Three and their promise of unlimited 4G which seems to be forever delayed.0 -

What's this post got to do with getting a good O2 retention deal? I'm not sure why the OP is suggesting EE is a vastly superior network as in my experience O2 is the best network, apart from it's limited 4G coverage at present.
Also who really needs 20GB of data on just a mobile phone, as there's only so much you can watch on a 5'' screen!0 -

I was merely pointing out that if O2 aren't offering great retention deals and you can get good signal on EE (which in my experience is the most reliable network by a wide margin), and you are faced with paying £30-£40 then maybe it's worth taking a look at. It was only intended for those who want to do a bit of shopping around.0
