Just left O2 after a nightmare with retentions!

Have been out of contract on sim only for about 2 years but my phone broke so wanted a contract with handset.

Spoke to O2 on live chat about upgrading and was offered one of the deals from the website. Said it was too expensive so put me through to retentions. Told them I'd found a cheaper deal on e2save but they said they would only price match deals direct from other networks or carphone warehouse/tesco/Phones4U etc...so I went off and found a deal for an iphone 4 from T Mobile at £15.50 a month. Went back to the live chat and asked if they would price match. They said no the cheapest they could do was £17 (despite being told before they would def price match!), so I argued and argued, they wouldn't budge. Eventually I said well we've moved house and T Mobile has much better reception than O2 here so I'll just leave, finally they said they would not only price match but give me the deal plus more minutes/data etc for just £15. I said brill lets do it and was sent a verification code by txt but was having trouble getting my broken phone to switch on to see the txt. I was given a reference number for the deal and told to come back later once I had the code, I asked him to confirm I could still get the £15 deal later and he said yes, thats what the ref number is for just quote that...off he went and someone else came along, I gave the reference number and verification code and was told yup we can do that for £17. I said I'd been told £15 but she said I had been given wrong information and it wasn't possible to give me a deal for £15. I was absolutely livid! Had spent 2 hours on live chat on a lovely sunny day trying to get a good deal and was just told a pack of lies. So I asked for my PAC code and she sent it to me without argument.

Bunch of time wasting jokers!! Glad I've switched to T Mobile now. Much better deal.

Well after having that rubbish response from O2 this morning I got a call from Phones 4 U who I got my upgrade from previously. I told them about the deals I had found and said I was happy to stay with O2 on one of their £27 a month tariffs but I didn't want to pay so much for the phone when I could get an iPhone 5 from t mobile for only £59.99. The guy on the phone was really helpful and got the price of the phone down to £64.27 for me so now I have a shiny new phone in the post and don't have the hassel of changing network! They were actually 10x more helpful than the useless person I spoke to at O2!

My upgrade is due tomorrow, been with o2 for years.

I currently have Samsung Galaxy S2 and perfectly happy with it only want a new phone if they give me one for free, would prefer to go SIM only but looks like I can swap to Giffgaff for £7.50 a month for what I need and currently paying £22 with o2.

Anyone had any joy getting a decent sim only deal? I am not feeling hopeful o2 will offer me anything!
Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month

used to be on o2 PAYG ... but last september they did a promo to encourage people to move on to tariffs ... offerring o2 100 tariff with

    100 minutes
    unlimited texts
    ? amount of data ...

which had an official price of about £21.50 a month but discounted to £11 .... with a free blackberry curve 9320

    on a 12 month contract .

Was a no brainer as was spending £10 a month on payg .. and this got me onto getting emails with blackberry .
( realise the free Curve was practically worth the £11 x 12 months !!)

The 12 months is coming to an end .

Anyone on same deal / similar situation ? .. and what to do next . ??

Ideally keeping at £11 a month ... but also a replacement Curve would be rather good !! Whether they would do this as "upgrade" ... or with pressure through phone call to Retentions dept ?

I know looking at e2save etc .. for about £8 nett after big cashback can get same/better tariff and a free Curve .. ... but i'd have to faff about basically buying a new tariff package ..... and then transferring exsisting number presumably via another network first ?

    thanks

    Hi all,

I'm looking at upgrading and wondered what people are being offered currently. Looking around i'm not sure there is that much?

Currently have my iPhone 4S which i'm happy with. I'm paying £21.99 per month although have had bills recently where i'm exceeding it (£60.66 this month!). My circumstances have changed since my contract was taken out.

I currently have 300 minutes and i'm using way more than that now. Nearer 7 hours of minutes rather than the 5 hours. Texs are unlimited and i have 20 picture messages along with 500mb of data.

In fairness i think i'd be happy keeping the phone for another 12 months at least, is it worth looking at a sim only deal?

Do O2 not do retentions any more as there has not been many updates recently? Or is no one on O2 nowadays?

    Hi guys and girls,

I am currently paying £36.88 per month for unlimited calls/ Text and 1GB of Data for my old iPhone and need to get this down and hopefully with an upgrade at the same time.

I chatted to O2 and the long and short of it is they offered me a iPhone 4 free with 600 minutes, Unlimited texts and 750 mb of data (apparently my average used is 114 minutes + 296 text + 54 mb of data) for £27 per month.

Does this sound a good deal? I've been with o2 since they were called Cellnet (= a very long time!!) but don't really mind dropping them and going elsewhere but I'm just not very good at finding decent deals without worrying there are hidden extras I'm going to get stung with! :o

Ideally I want to stay with an iPhone and go to the iPhone4 but really could do with bringing my monthly bill down to £25 ... which he was having none of, lol

Any help and advice for this phone tarrif phobic would be much appreciated :)

Flipping heck - given your average usage you are paying thru the nose ATM.

In your shoes I would go for summink like the tesco sim only deals and keep your current phone for the time being, and put money away each month towards a new phone.

eg Tesco sim only will give you 250 mins, 5000 texts & 500mb for £10 on only a monthly contract (it's only £7.50 if you sign up for 12 months). So swap your £30+ per month for that tariff, keep your current phone, put £10 (or even £20) per month on one side, then in a few months look again at tariffs, you'll have a sum to put upfront for a phone upgrade.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)
