I'm with O2 on a 12 month simplicity tariff with 300mins, unlimited texts and unlimited 02 to 02 calls for £10.31 a month. I called for my PAC code and they offered me a Desire S on a 24mth contract for £21.50 a month, £59.99 upfront, for 300 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb data.
Its not a bad deal I think, but I told them I was going to go to Talkmobile and get a Desire S for £18 a month with 300 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited data.
What to do!
Not a good deal really from o2. 21.50 - 10.50 = £11 per month for the handset x 24 +59.99 = 323.99 which is the cost of a handset and then another £10.50 a month for line rental which is what your paying already.
I recently took out the galaxy ace from talkmobile via e2save, works out at £8 a month after cashback, and £46 from quidco. 300 mins 1000 sms and unlimited data.
The phone is quite good too.
Came with one months free insurance, which i cancelled str8 away but still got 1 months free cover. After 5 days dropped the phone in the loo was gutted, brough it into carphonewarehouse expecting all hell to get a new one, and they just replaced it there and then even just had to pay the excess.0 -
i would find it very unlikely that any provider would lower a contract on an iPhone to keep customers. The prices are pretty much set in stone and the iPhone is the biggest selling phone ever and for every customer that wants a cheaper tarrif there are people who will pay the tarrif so losing you as a customer doesn't bother them0

Just off the phone to O2 rententions there....contract is due to end on the 4th July and rang up and stated that i wished to cancel my contract and was giving my 30 day notice period. they asked the reason why i stated vodafone are offering 900 mins unlimited data.. 750mb data FREE handset for £46 month on 18 month contract........they said they could offer me the exact same tariff for £47 month with free handset on 18 month......i took the deal.....forgot to mention i know someone who works in o2 and i get 30% off my bill so in total will be paying £33 month for iphone 4
what u think about that deal?0 -

Depends who you speak to I guess. It was a year and a half ago to be fair, but when I called for my PAC number, they asked why I was leaving - I told them I wanted to go to Orange and he said what can we do to keep you...
I jokingly said a free iphone 3GS - and I had it within 48 hrs. No change in contract or anything, just a new phone.
The fact I didn't plead or ask for anything perhaps helped.0 -
i phoned the upgrade line (not retentions) tonight as I can now upgrade - I've been with o2 since about 1995/6 constantly on contract although i did go onto payg for 1 month last year then back on contract.
Anyway, I currently pay £13 odd a month (invaribly bills are @20 a month) for 300 mins, unlimited text and 500 data on a 12mth contract.
They have said that if I want a new phone I have to go to an 18mth contract and increase the charge to £37 for the same limits as I have,or I can carry on as I am on a 12mth contract, but with no phone, no credit to my bill - when I asked what incentive there was to stay with them if they weren't going to give me anything for upgrading, he said you get the priviledge of staying on a 12mth contract at a low charge which we don't offer anymore.
I'm a bit peeved tbh as expected at least something so have started to have a scout about but having always been with o2 direct, I'm not really sure what companies to trust who to avoid etc.
Thanks for bearing with me on a long post!! and am grateful for any guidance you can give.x0 -

I think you're missing the point. The post said eighteen months ago he called to upgrade and asked for a 3GS and they gave him one with no change in contract. At the time that was a top of the range phone.
Therefore showing that eighteen months ago o2 were a little more lenient with the 3GS. Which is the equivalent of what the 4 is now.
I've just read o2's tariffs online too, they seem to be getting worse rather than better!0 -
If anyone is interested, o2 will price match the iPhone 4 black or white with any major network which can be seen on their website. The price match is the handset cost and the closest tariff cost, not allowance. 35pm with three will be 37pm with o2..
Cheapest really would be the Three deal at 35pm £29 handset cost.0
