Crikey - it's been a while since I used this thread 18 months ago to get a refurb'ed Nokia 5800 for £79, £150 cashback, 600 mins (anytime any net), more texts than I'd ever need and unlimited internet) on an 18 month contract for £20pcm. I've also got o2 broadband on a 12 month contract expires in December for £7.50pcm.
My contract ends on 9th November and I can upgrade from 9th October. I did want to stay with O2 and want an HTC with "unlimited" internet and wifi and would be happy to get 400 minutes but judging from previous posts it looks unlikely. My bills are usually £25'ish but had a couple of £50+ ones.
Phones4u have offered me a free HTC Desire, 500 minutes, 500meg internet (presume that doesn't that include wifi access to BT Openzone / Cloud - even though the pushy salesguy insisted it does?) 3000 texts on an 18 month deal for £27.50.
I doubt that anyone has got anything like that deal from retentions, but has there been anyone that has moved from o2 to orange because they can offer a far better deal and regretted it?
BTW - I called-up O2 directly and asked if they would sell the HTC desire for £285 and they said that thtye don't do that anymore. Has anyone else tried this recently?0 -
Phoned O2 up on their upgrade line Saturday morning - the girl couldn't be less helpful.....
1. Didn't ask name or number
2. First thing she said after I explained that I had moved to Simplicity because changing from my old Online30 Account 14 months ago would have meant less mins/texts for more money was "I have the same deals as on the website"....
3. I'm interested in a Sony X10 - you need to be on a £40 tariff for 24 months contract and £45 tariff for 18 months to make it free. That was it - I said to her is there any movement on this? She said "No".....
Call ended after three and a half minutes.........What should I put in here that won't upset people.........0 -
pieman - you need to talk to retentions, not upgrades.0

Cheers - will dig the number out - seem to it being in this thread somewhere.....What should I put in here that won't upset people.........0

i've just got off retentions at o2 as i was after a new iphone 4...
currently spending about £20 pm on simplicity
Enquired about ip4, £35 18mths 300mins...
They got back to me and said they could do 500mins for the same price, I said i'd think about it. They rang back (as promised) in teh afternoon asking me what I wanted to do. I told htem that data allowance is only 500mb, and whilst unsure if I'd go over that, Tesco (who use o2 I added) offer 1gb of data.
o2 then told me that they use a "different server" to o2 themselves. I then apologised telling o2 I've wasted their time and will go with Tesco, that was that... no counter offer, nothing, despite stating that i can get a shorter contract, mroe minutes and more data for the same monthly tariff!
doesnt tesco piggyback off o2 anyway so basically its the same server? What goes around-comes around0 -
Same network, reduced bandwith (voice/data)... Remember the old days of renting airtime, thats what others do with the 4 operators in the UK...
Daft how it all works, interesting though0 -
what is the number for o2 retentions?0

currently on 600mins, 1000 texts and unlimited internet - £20 month plus i got a 5800 last time i renewed 18 months ago
spoke to retentions and they won't even match that offer. I can only keep that deal if i leave the contract rolling i.e. no phone upgrade fir as long as I want the above for £20
off to see what voda can do
EDIT: Just rang back retentions, spoke to someone else and said the £20 month has now expired and I'm paying £35. Duff info from the 1st person GROWL
Guy said their are no deals that he can give me like I've had in the past and he knows other networks are doing better offers! He did say sorry though lol0 -
