  • Rang O2 and got offered the same as asprilla:

    Desire free
    Mins 900
    Text unlimited
    Data 750mb including wifi
    Cost £40 (24mth)

Said that wa sno good as could get cheaper elsewhere and asked for my PAC - girl was more than happy to do so but apologised she couldnt do more and there was no chance of a discount like last time (was discounted £15 a month from £35 to £20).

Might try and get through to retentions and see if they can help but looks like I will be leaving O2 even though have been with them for 10 years+

Just switched from O2 to Tesco and was told by O2 that they have no need to compete with food stores! Perhaps they will see the need as they lose more and more customers.

Wait.. so when you asked for your PAC, they didn't just put you through to retentions? They've got a lot more power to offer discounts

You could get yourself a shiny HTC Desire HD for 35 quid a month on Vodaphone...

The funny thing is, you've moved from O2 to, well, O2! So it doesn't really matter to them as they've still got your business! Fair enough, they might not get as much money out of it, but all the customer service has now been passed over to Tesco, so O2 can afford to take less.

I realise I'm still using O2 but I'm saving £10 per month, get extra Tesco points and if I have any problems I can pop into the phone shop at Tesco rather than phone 02. The contract with Tesco is open ended so I won't need to phone O2 and haggle any more. I'm happy!
  • 600 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited web use.

    24 month contract for £30 a month
  • Its a little against the grain from the general theme on this thread but i have actually just come off the phone pretty happy with my O2 retention deal on a HTC Desire. Initially when i called i spoke to a pretty unhelpful girl in upgrades who gave me the bog standard offer which was:

    Desire free

    Mins 900
    Text unlimited
    Data 750mb including wifi
    Cost £40 (24mth) £45 (18mth)

Obviously not very competitive and was told that was the best they could do. I said i would shop around. Called back to give 30 day notice half an hour later after checking the T Mobile deal and was put through to disconnections where i spoke to an extremely helpful young man who gave me:

    Desire free

    Monthly £30
    Mins 500
    Text Unlimited
    Data 500mb including wifi

I wasnt particularly excited by this but he then went on to advise that if i drop the wi-fi it would save me £5 a month. I started to get a little keener but then the clincher came when he volunteeered that if i was willing to pay £13 for the handset it would allow him to discount my tarrif to his maximum allowance therefore saving me a further £2 per month.

So in summary Desire £13, 500mins, unlimited text, 500mb data for £23 and i am satisfied with this although it is a 24mth contract. Could have got 18mth for an extra £5 per month but decided to go with the 24mth.

I've just got a similar deal by quoting the above. I'm a low user so maybe different terms offered. I managed to get the HTC Desire handset for £15 upfront with 500 mins, unlimited texts, 500mb data, £25 p.m. on 24 month contract.
I only found this financially viable by talking to broadband retentions and getting 6 months free on my current terms with them.
I can't over-emphasise the importance of talking with someone who you can talk to (if that makes any sense). The first two (robotic) people I spoke to showed no interest in retaining me as a customer whereas the last person did.
Do your research, know your facts and it is worthwhile persisting till you get someone you can reason with. I'm quite happy with what I've got as its going to cost appx 75p per week more than what I am already paying with reduced minutes (that I don't use anyway) and the new handset.
    Good luck.

    Thanks Asprilla.
  • Rang o2 retentions and no luck. Trying to charge me £60 for the Desire or £50 for the Galaxy S - £30 a month too. Best they can do is £25pm for a Blackberry 3G.

Orange are offering £27.50 pm for 500 min and texts, unlimited web and 1 month free for the Desire on 24 month contract.

Desire is rubbish the battery is shocking, makes the Iphone 3gs look good.

You have to turn EVERYTHING off to get a day out of it. so whats the point in having a fancy phone if you have to turn all the bells and whistles off to use it.

I sent mine back within the 14 days.

Thanks Ringo, checked with O2 it defo still includes data, apparantly the data and wifi are available as seperate bolt ons.
And haha yes of course they cant limit the use of your own wifi, thanks, i have edited my post so it reads correct now
    Cheers

I think the deal that you got Asprilla is probably as good as I would expect = I wasn't expecting anything near that a couple of weeks ago.
I was all set to go with Orange but if I can get this deal then I will stay with O2 due to the UK call centres (who have sorted the occaisional problem that I've had) and the fact that I can go straight in to an O2 shop to sort out any problems with the phone while under contract (as I have done twice before). I've been using an Orange PAYG SIM to try-out and that doesn't seem to always get reception in the same places that I've had no problem with O2 so for the £3/4 I might save a month I don't think it would be worth it.

With regards to the WI-FI bolt-on (for BT Cloud and BT Openzone), does anyone know for sure whether or not it is unlimited? I also have read conflicting postings on what happens when you go over the 500mb mark - does it cut-off your connection until the next month or does it just charge you per MB (I presume it is the latter)? Thanks for any advice.
