Is there a specific number for retentions?
I called 202 there and got the following:
I had been due an upgrade back in May and decided I wanted to wait on the Iphone 4g.
They advised me to move on to Simplicity until then.
Since then, i have decided that i would prefer an HTC Desire so i called today.
They would only offer me the tariffs that i could see on the website and therefore would charge me for the handset unless i went for an expensive monthly tariff.
I have been with O2 for more than 10 years and have 2 accounts with them, one is for my wife.
I said that Vodafone could offer me a better tariff with a free phone and she said that they couldn't match it so would i like my PAC code.
I expected her to put me through to retentions first but there was no mention of it, all she could do was offer me different handsets.
I have always got a better deal in the past by getting put through to retentions but as she didn't seem bothered i wondered can i contact them direct.
If someone can let me know then number, or a better way to resolve this it would be much appreciated as i would rather stay with O2 than go to Vodafone.

Try choosing the option from the menu of thinking of leaving rather than the upgrades one,

Or speak to upgrades be firm tell them you want to cancel and they'll put you through to retentions anyway/

I ve finally been offered a 3GS 16GB with 500 mins (300 plus 200 free) unlimited texts and 500 mb internet ( and unlimited free wi-fi) for £28 on 18 month contract. I suppose this will do as the previous calls best offer was 600 mins etc for £35 with free handset!
I was literally outside vodafone about to have a HTC too lol!

Has anyone had any experience of being an existing O2 contract holder and offered a better iPhone 4 tariff than the published ones to stay with them?

I dont think its possible, the iphone tarrifs seem to be non negotiable unless its a reconditioned handset.

Yeah, I think you're right, I've called three different times now to ask different people (sometimes it can depend who answers!) and they've all said the same thing.

It's a bizarre business model. For the sake of £5 per month they're happy to see me walk away now, along with two other iPhone contracts in my house in December!

    Hi there,

    With regards to your response,

Yeh i got the same situation also as you!

Got the iphone 3G Manual and 3G headphones, i rang back 202 retentions the lady is sending me some 3GS headphones as a gesture of goodwill, tell them it's on the Apple website they should do it!

£25 headphones i'd fight for them no doubt!
