  • Ooh, I didn't realise that at all! I've been with o2 nearly 5 years now aswell, ha!

Saying that, they once sent me the wrong phone (that's what they had on their system, grr!!) and I returned it and they sent the right one back. Maybe that was classed as 'cooling off' x

i am on O2 simplicity at £20 per mth for 400 mins and 500 texts. this is fine but i sent 39 texts over my limit and got charged £5 - i sent a competition text to.

i called to see what offers they had and spoke to a normal sales guy. i said i wanted a 850i, n95 8gig or n95 normal. he offered me 200 mins and 400 texts for £25 a mth. said no and he put me through to retentions straight away. nice chap called rhys spoke to me. we discussed tarriffs and i said i wanted 200 mins minimum and 500 + texts on a 12 mth contract. said best was £25 with the phone and 200 mins and 400 texts and unlimited o2 to o2 calls. said i get that for £25 on 18mth with free k850i.
said thats ok but i want more. he put me on hold and said i can have the k850i with a free 8 gig mem card, 400 mins and 1000 texts and unlim o2 to o2 for £25 on a 18mth. i said thats good but i want it for £20 pmth due to my money saving exploits at moment. put me on hold, came back and said they are happy to do that.

so, for a simple 'what offers have you got' i have the same £20 per mth out lay for simplicity but with double the texts and free o2 to o2 calls and a new phone.

pay to haggle a bit in a nice way. i didn;t even say i was leaving them, just looking around.

    he said better options

you can haggle and theyll give you the offer you want, or say they will but will you really get what theyve offered you?

best to ask for it in writing is my advice or ask the person who offers you to clearly note what you discussed in your account notes. Numerous ocassions I have been offered deals by O2 and a day later theres no sign of them and they can't find them on my account

Anyway, are people getting offered good deals on 12 month contracts, or is it only 18 months that Retentions do these days?

Hi, just thought I'd post my story on here in case it is helpful to anybody. I have been with O2 for around 5 years, always on the same contract - £20 a month for 300 off-peak mins and 500 texts.

I wanted a contract for the same price but with around 300 anytime mins, and only needed about 150 texts. I first rang the upgrade department and all they would offer me where the usual deals, i.e. what they offer new customers.

I looked at other offers from other networks and found an Orange deal for 350 anytime mins + 250 texts for £20. Rang O2 today and pressed the button for 'if you want to cancel', and asked for PAC code because I wanted to move to another network as I'd found a better deal. When I told her what this deal was, she offered my 400 anytime mins and 1000 texts for £20 a month :D (and phone upgrade too).
