I am going to try to haggle with them and see if they will give me that iPhone simplicity for £15.
Not optimistic but see what happens...

I'm on the Simplicity online 20 tariff at the moment but looking to get the BB Bold 9700 on contract.

With Carphone Warehouse I can get 1200 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet for £30 a month. I called up O2 retentions and they offered me the same deal for £40 a month OR pay £60 for the phone, 600 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited internet for £30.

Not a very good match in my opinion, but as I'd like to stay with O2, I said I'd have a think and call back. What should I do when I call back? Re-negotiate to get a free phone or just say I'm leaving and I want my PAC?

Call them, make sure you say want to give your 30day notice and get your PAC number. When you get to retentions hopefully you should get a helpful adviser who ask why you want to leave, tell them what you have been offered by CPW.
Say that you are happy to stay if they can beat that…Then its mostly up to the adviser, he/she may then offer you something. My advice is to keep calling and speak to a few people before making your decision.

Hi Everyone and thanks for reading my post:
My 18 months contract is due to end on the 21st, I am currently on the online 35 tariff but only paying £20 pm with free web.
I fancy the HTC Hero but as O2 only has the new HD2 I called Retention and they could only 'offer' the same tariff at £30 and £100 for the phone, or £40 and free phone.
I don't really want to pay more than I pay at the moment, so when I said that I would leave and go somewhere else, the advisor just said that he would send me a PAC code within the next few days as he could not offer me a better deal.
Personally I think it's a disgrace as I have been with O2 for over 6 years.
I am thinking of getting the Hero on TMobile for £25/30 pm but it's a 24 months.
Does anyone have any suggestion? Would Retention call me back to offer a better deal or am I too optimistic?

    cheers!
  • Like you I was an O2 customer for years, came out of contract last Feb and been trying to get a good deal including phone for almost a year. Eventually I gave up on them and this week switched to T-mobile (see my post a few above). In my opinion O2 didn't want to keep me as a customer so I went elsewhere.

Just call up, select the 'thinking of leaving O2?' option. Should put you straight through to Retentions. Ask for your PAC straightaway, nothing else. When they ask you why, say you are leaving to go to the Orange deal and you just need the PAC to port your number. They might then be a bit more flexible on the free phone front.

I did this and they offered me the 600 mins/1000 texts but wanted £30 for the phone (like you, I was on iPhone Simplicity 20). I went to TMo in the end. Some people on the O2 customer forums have managed to get the phone for free, though.......
  • is there anyone else who's up for contract renewal now .. that was on the carphone / o2 £35 a month with £600 cashback .... getting 600-800 minutes and 500 -1000 texts ...

one post in november said it was now £540 cashback ... i've just been offerred max £420 cashback regardless of threat !! .

    Anyone know any differrent ?
    thanks

Good luck with that, i don't think they are willing to discount Iphone tariffs. But at least you get a decent amount of messages and minutes for 1/2 the price you pay while in contract.

I'm just going to buy my next iphone sim free the iphone tariffs are a complete rip off.
  • I've had no luck with retentions, largely because I wanted the android phone - Samsung i7500 Galaxy.

Been paying £20/mth for 600mins and 1000 texts (or something like that) with free internet. Was on O2 select with a £35 tariff reduced by £15. Basically told that there is no chance - for the phone I want it's going to be something like £40 on 24 month plan and that was from retentions guy.

So - off to T-mobile. £30/mth for HTC Hero, tonnes of mins and texts, free internet, 18 month contract.

Shame - I've always had good deals from O2.
  • I thought O2 stopped retentions? I really want to get out of my contract with them but unfortunately it does not run out until june/july.
