Has anyone had any experience with a refurbished iphone? How long are they guaranteed for?

I am due an upgrade with O2 and they have offered me a refurbished iphone 3GS 16gb with the following options:

    1) 600 mins 1000 text unlimited data £25/month 24 months or £30/month 18 months

    2) 75 mins 125 text unlimited data £26/month 18 months (£14 for handset)

    What do you think?

My upgrade date is 3rd Jan, and after seeing this I thought I'd give them a call.
I got offered normal £35 a month tariff with an extra 1000 texts (600 mins 1500 texts, web and wifi)
    refurb 3gs 16gb.
My cost will be £23 because I'm upgrading slightly early. Its on a 24 month contract, what do you guys think?

I've currently got 3g on £35 contract. Wanting new phone because my 3g is slightly damaged, but I maybe could live with it.

I'd say wait til the 3rd, only 2 weeks to go now, plus you don't want to lose your new iphone at the Christmas party!

Although saying that, I would have to pay 40£ as I can't upgrade until the 17th Jan, and I was tempted to do this! I'm assuming this deal will still be available in a months time? Or should we both just pay off our contracts and get the best deal we can now?

Also would it be possible to lower my monthly tariff to the lowest, then pay it off and get this deal?

    Thanks

I'm not wanting to lower my tariff because I'll use the minutes and want more texts anyway. My only concern is that if I wait I might miss out on the chance of the refurb iphone and have to pay for a new one. I've tried asking about refurbs before and it seems that they can be few and far between.

    Sorry, I don't think I was clear.

I think this is possible, I'll use myself as an example, I pay 35£ monthly, and would cost 40£ to pay off until Jan 17th.

Instead, I call up, lower the tariff to 20£, call up again, pay off till Jan 17th (now ~23£), then get the retentions deal, and a free 3GS, having to pay 23£ instead of 40£ to pay off the rest of the contract. You'd only be lowering your minutes for a day or so, until the new contract comes into effect...
  • You can't upgrade to an iphone though, it's a whole new contract, complete with new credit check. Which they failed to mention to me when I phoned 3 times ( a few months apart) asking about my upgrade date. Hence why they want you to pay to end the current contract instead of upgrading.

They quoted me £128 to get out of mine, yet waiting 4 months at £20 is only £80, so I'm taking out my new contract after christmas and letting the ole one run.

  • well i just phoned O2 and bought myself out of my contract and told them i had a friend who had got the 600 xnetwork mins 1000 texts unlimited data and an refurb iphone 3gs for £25 a month and then offered it to me, now i did have to pay a small amount for the phone but still it was quite a victory.

if your near the end of your contract and you can afford to buy it out then i would recommend going for it.

I have got my PAC from them now. At no time did they try to keep me so I am off to a cheaper tariff, more minutes, nice new phone and 12 month contract. And because it was their c0ck up I get out without having to pay the 18 months left on my o2 contract.

Just rung o2, asked about the refurb.
Getting my iphone 16gb 3gs tomorrow
    600 mins
    500 texts
unlimited web £35pm.18 month. The lady said she couldnt offer me any extra discounts. I easily send over 500 texts a month so extra texts would have been nice.

The only thing is its black, i really wanted a white one :(

I got exactly the same deal, but paying £31 per month, which they were adamant was the absolute best deal they could offer me. It seems they decide what offer they want to give you, and then just refuse to budge on it! I'm about to call up again to say I need more texts, or I'm off to Orange!

Update: Just called up, and was told that there was no way they could offer me extra texts, it's apparently just not possible. I'm obviously not getting through to the same people as Ruiner99 and CG19a!
