02 Retentions thread 2

My current 18 month contract with O2 ends at the end of the month. I have been an O2 monthly contract customer for 5 years. I have just come off the phone with the retentions department and I'm confused and incredibly disappointed with their offers.
18 months ago I was able to negotiate a great deal: Online 30 for 18 months at half price (£15/month for 18 months) with 400 xnetwork minutes, 1000 texts, free O2 to O2 calls and a free SE C902 handset.
I now need a new handset and I'd like to keep my bill at £15. I wouldn't mind sacrificing some inclusive minutes and texts.
The lady I spoke to in the retentions department today said that she was unable to renew my current tariff with the discount. She advised me that they had been instructed to push the sim-only simplicity tariffs and that I should go for the £15 a month option (with 300 mins & 600 texts). However, this does not include a handset.
She was not prepared to offer me any discount on any tariff or a free handset.
I'd appreciate any thoughts/comments/advice any of you might have.
Thanks for your time

You got a good offer last year, so your loyalty value wom't be so high as by giving 1/2 price + a free handset you have got a really good deal and they have not earned much money.
When speaking to retentions had you already requested a PAC code, the idea of transferring your number is usually a good indication you want to leave. And you get better discounts.
At the end of the day 02 might not be willing to give you any others, have you shopped around elsewhere to see what you can get?
At £15 a month there aren't many contracts even 24 months that give the latest handsets free.

You really need to push to £20 a month to get any decent amount of minutes of texts.
T-Mobile
£15 Combi 15 Offer
300 Mins, unlimited texts, but only a small selection of phones
Vodafone http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-price-plans/all-plans
£15 - 300 Mins, unlimited texts, + a phone
Yoru best bet is a sim only 12/18/24 months and use your current phone. Otherwise you are going to need to increase up to £25+Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't request a PAC code but I did make it clear that without a decent offer I would leave O2, didn't seem to have any impact on what O2 were prepared to offer me.

I have just got off the phone to O2 to try and get a good deal.
I have about 6 years loyalty and this time last year got:
SIM only
12 month contract
500 cross network mintes
500 texts
for £2.91 a month (after cashback)
The best they could offer me for this year was:
SIM only
18 month contract
600 cross network minutes
1000 texts
for £4.91 a month (after cashback)
I find the best deal is with SIM only – use the money you save to buy the phone online for cheaper than it works out as as part of a contract. I can give you the guys name and number OP as he was very helpful.0 -
do o2 give cashback?0

I'm actually with O2 through the Carphone Warehouse - not sure if it's the same people?
The guy in the store said they no longer do cashback / chequeback but if you call up the account cancellations department they will sort you out.
The deal they offered me was £30 per month with £450 cashback by sending back the 6th, 12th and 18th month bill. You can send the bill back at any time - no worries if you forget and send it late.
Hope that helps someone0 -
Carphone Warehouse is a 3rd party retailers, but from what i have read they can do special deals with 02, these are carphone warehouse only tariffs. Other retailers like phones4 give normal tariffs with cashback offers.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

If you are looking for under £15 contracts and a handset, 3 has some good deals I think.0

My O2 contract was up and I went through to the retentions department (i.e. not the first people you come across - ask specifically for retentions.)
I could have had the 3GS for £30 per month with 75 minutes and 125 texts for free.
I opted for the 3G for £24 per month with the same minutes/texts for free. However I coerced the nice fella into giving me unlimited texts for the same price. I realise that the minutes are fairly skimpy but can live with this as I have a home phone!
I would imagine that the unlimited texts could be applied to the 3GS also, but I begrudge paying £30 odd for the amount of usage my mobile gets.
Put it this way the headline price for an iPhone 3G for 18 months with 75 minutes and 125 texts is £29.38 per month with a fee of £96.89 for the phone.
The only issue for some people may be that these discounts were only valid on iPhone's that have been returned to O2 within 14 days of initial purchase. This would mean that the purchaser returned the phone for whatever reason and O2 check them over and resell them. They still come with the same warranty and are guaranteed to have no faults.
Otherwise the 3GS was £35pm and the 3G £30.
Hope this helps someone grab a bargain!John
