What's the trick to getting through to retentions? When I dial 202 and follow the 'thinking of leaving 02' prompts all I get is endless ringing and no answer!

EDIT: Got through to them eventually and got offered diddly squat!
  • I got put through to the retentions line and got offered...

    24month contract
    Samsung Genio Touch
    100min
    Unlimited Txts
Unlimited Internet (via a 7.50 bolt on)

    21.87/month (including the bolt on)

Cant help but feel I can get better than this. I'm not too fussed about the phone, I would prefer to have an older / cheaper / reliable phone, my main interest is a few minutes (1/200 is fine) sufficient txts (400 is plenty) and free internet.

    Any suggestions??

Simplicity 12 month tariff via quicdo is £19.58 plus £100 cashback. Use cashback to buy decent phone (in fact, you could pick up the Samsung Genio for less than £100). Plus, you're only on a 12 month contract.

Doesn't it make more sense (+£50) if i just upgrade my current tariff to that 1 and get £150 credit to my bill through O2 themselves? Rather than getting £100 cashback through quidco?

Maybe I could even get that deal a bit higher if I went through retentions as that's just the standard one advertised on their website?
  • Well I am fairly angry with o2. I have been with them for years and I am currently on £25 a month tariff with a £5 discount each month.

With this I get 200 minutes, 1400 texts and unlimited web browsing which i am more than happy with but I am miffed by the phones that they are offering.

so far they have offered me the samsung genio and nokia 6303.
Both relatively poor phones considering that it is a £25 a month tariff.
I have spoken to retentions who say there is nothing more they can offer and I am willing to move but my problem is that i need the unlimited web browsing as I do use it a lot. I also find o2's choice of phones absolutely appalling.

i have no idea where to go from here.

I have been on the phone to them over the new HTC HD2 phone. I have already handed my 30 days notice with them but thought i would try for this one... they wanted £97 for the phone on the tariff i;m on now (£30 a month, 600 mins 1000 texts unlimited internet)

they then put me through to retentions and he said the phone is out of stock but its likely i can have it for free based on that tariff

    What do people think?

It may be worth upgrading and paying the £5 a month extra and getting all that!

Go SIM only with them in the short term- I agree that the Genio isn't really a phone that should be sold on a contract as it's worth around 70 quid.

You wouldn't believe the amount of people that ask for the Genio's in Orange upgrades! We don't sell them though unfortunately on contracts.

As a phone the Genio is punching above it's weight in the price bracket- I suspect next year decent smart phones may come down to below the £150 mark. Whether O2 would sell any cheap Iphone substitute however is doubtful.

Think their website was throwing a wobbly yesterday - I emailed them and it seems to be working today so give it another go :cheesy:
