Does this mean that you only need to be an O2 mobile customer at the time of the broadband signup?

No, you definitely DO lose the £5 p/m discount if you leave o2 but the mobile department dont seem to know anything about it!!

Go into a phone shop and have a play around with an HTC Hero. That's going to be my next purchase :)

The HTC Hero is not available on O2 is it?

And is it an Iphone beater ? ;)

No it isn't available on O2, but as an O2 customer myself, I'm more than prepared to move to another network if the retentions department can't source one for me (I've heard of them being able to do this). In my humble opinion, it's a iPhone murderer, but that's all subjective ;)

Is it worth buying a cheap payg o2 mobile (£10/ 3 month top-up I think - edit) to take advantage of the o2 broadband deal?

You have to top up £10 every 3 months scroll right down to bottom (small print)
If you go down the p&g mobile route it will save £20 a year compared to full price on standard

O2 bb is about the best of LLU providers imo

i am about to leave o2 broadband-left 02 mobile 3 months ago but i have still been getting £5 discount off broadband bill. asked for my broadband mac and they offered me further £2.50 off if i want to stay. i'm hoping they don't try to claw back the discount i got after i ended the mobile contract.....

I wonder if this is standard - they have never seemed the most clued up provider so it wouldnt surprise me if I continued to get the discount if I moved to another mobile provider!!!

They can't source any handsets other than the ones that are availalbe (on the website if in stock).. but no, o2 don't do HTC handsets.

Just wondering how O2 managed to supply my work colleague with a Nokia E71 then. Must have been a one-off. Anyhoo, like I said, if they can't offer me a Hero, I'm jumping ship after being with them for 10 years (BT Cellnet customer originally).

I'm Holding out for a Hero 'til the end of... my contract :p
