I've been trying numerous way to get the best deal from the retentions team. Asking for cancellations will not be able to get good deal as asking for pac code. Be polite and they will happy to get you some discount.
what i've got today is 18 months contract, 20 pounds per month (which is suppose to be 30 pounds per month), 400 mins, 1000txts and unlimited o2 calls. Free N95 with 8GB memory card. They tried to offer me N95 8GB, but they said there wont be any stock and need to check with them on Monday for confirmation, however i am desperate for phone so they had offered me the silver edition with 8gb memory card.0 -

I was offered the same saying that I wanted to cancel and without mentioning the PAC code... Although I was v polite.
then i think it will depends how helpful is the CSR. I've been calling twice earlier and what they can do was 30 pounds without any discount even threaten with cancelling, and then i told them "i will think about" .

I managed to get 400 xnet minutes, 1000 texts, free 02 to 02 calls and a free LG Secret for £15 per month on an 18 month contract.
I think this is a really good deal as no one else was offering anything like it on a different network, even the cashback sites such as e2save, dialaphone or CWH weren't able to offer anything to compare.
It seems that now existing customers have a far better chance of getting a deal.
As for some of the comments above regarding not being offered a deal, my advice is to
1) Sound like you are definately calling to cancel rather than upgrade,
2) Ask to be put through to the special retentions department rather than dealing with the standard CSR (they are normally more than willing to put you through as it is one less person on their plate putting their call times up!), and most importantly
3) Do not be afraid to call back several times as different operatives are often inclined to offer different deals.
I called O2 4 or 5 times, each time just asking to check the details of a the deal I'd been offered previously and possibly ammend it. Once or twice the person was rock solid and wouldn't offer me anything else and didn't seem interested, but over the course of a few days the deal I was offered went from:-
200 mins/txts with a SE 580i for £20 (12 month) to
200/400 with a SE 880 to
200/400 with an LG Secret to what I really wanted
400/1000 with a Secret for £15 (18 month).
Keep asking politely and you will probably get a better deal than you even wanted!0 -

so glad i seen your post, i was going to settle for the U600 but after looking up the secret got my mind set on that, lovely little phoneWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -

My girlfriend was on a Flex contract of some sort but was barely using the minutes as they were all off peak. She was paying £25 a month so I told her to get on to them and change it.
One phone call today and she got the above deal, didn't want the phone so they credited her £150.

I have an O2 Stellar, so I don't consider most handsets to be as good or as feature packed given there is no new model (yet, HTC Raphael will be out in the next 6 months).
I would take a new handset and flog it, but then the old handset wouldn't be covered by the insurance and you have to negotiate the 101 scams of eBay. So I looked at the cash deals and they only offered £100 for 12 months and £150 for 18 months, which isn't exactly exciting (less than £10 per month).
So I took the Simplicity SIM-only contract. Online 20, sim-only - £20 for 400 mins, 1000 SMS and free O2 to O2 calls. This is essentially a £10 discount from the standard Online 30 which has the same features and makes it cheaper than the cash deal. I added the £7.50 web bolt on and continued my insurance at £5 (saving £2.50). Not a super deal, but it will tide me over.*I reserve the right to have an opinion, the right to change this opinion and the right to be wrong.*Hope that helps.
