Does anyone have a step by step guide how to get the best deal from O2 for their retentions?
I am eligible for an upgrade from tomorrow and while I have read the very good and large threads about it, I am none the wiser towards my strategy - i.e. should I act dumb and see what the offer, play hardball and ask to be put through to cancellations, or a mixture of both.

Can someone advise what they did, and whether it worked for them?
    Cheers[/quote
I’m with o2 business, I looked around at other tariffs, phoned them up asking for the number required to transfer to another provider and they asked me what I was getting with the new provider and they matched the package. The package I was asking for costs £35 but because I remained with o2 I get the £35 package for £28.06 as they give me a % off for being a loyal customer
  • 200 Free Mins + 40 mins treat
    400 Texts
    Unlimited 02 to 02 call

For £10 per month + Free £180 Cash (as i dont want another handset)
Free phone for 18 months is good enough for me.

Overthetop: I just told them i wanted to go pay as you go and they threw the offer at me.

I'm happy with my new deal!

Was on old online 200 tarriff 300 mins & 750 texts on a retention deal of £20 per month for 12 months. Called last week and found this would go up to £30 at the beginning of July.

I was told on the call they no longer do retention deals but I could sign up for 18 month Online 30, 400 min, 1000 texts & free o2 to o2 for £30 month & as I desperately wanted a good camera phone I could have a N95 8gb refurb.

I went to an O2 shop to look at the phone to make sure I liked it and called back that night and spoke to retentions. I had decided to go with Online 30 as I would get so much more for the same money. I asked for them to confirm the phone would be perfect and then said I would like to go ahead but felt that the jump from £20 to £30 was a bit high and was there anything she could do.

I was put on hold for approx 1 min and she came back to say as a loyal customer I she could reduce the price to £20 month!

I didn't have bargain for this deal at all, which is just as well as I am not very good at haggling, so I am very, very happy!

same deal and price as myself:beer:

    They let me go PAYG.

I've been with O2 since they were BT Cellnet back in the 1990s. I'm currently on a 200 minutes a month contract with a 50% discount on line rental and a loyalty discount which means I was paying about £10 a month. They sent me a text saying I was eligible for an upgrade and when I called them, they told me I didn't spend enough and couldn't have a new phone. ON top of that, they told me my 50% discount would end with my contract in June and all they could offer was for me to go with their SIM only deal.

I told them I'd rather go PAYG and shop around and they said OK. My PAYG SIM arrived yesterday. I haven't had my PAC code yet though...

Thought I would share my 02 deal.

Rang up 02, as my deal was ending yesterday (either cancel or upgrade).

Was on 200 mins 500 txts for £25 online. Said that Vodafone were offering 400 mins 1000 txts (with no access to internet) for same price. Refused first offer (75 mins 1250 txts), agreed to 200 mins 1400 txts and new phone (could chose any, 02 didn't mention i-phone, but then daughter doesn't want one) 18 months at £20 per month. As this is just what I need, I am happy.

The first person I spoke to did look at my calling record though and tried to tailor me in to what I currently use. But I asked for more txts and minutes and got what I thought was a good deal for me More txts, same talk, less cost.

hey all! I was on PAYG o2 but realised the potential from o2 retension and therfore brought simplicity 15 2day (with 200 mins and txt) for £15 p/m. I know its steep but was going to wait a month and ring retention.

Do you think they would give me a better deal next month if I rang up? How long should I leave it untill I ring? I know they may say i have only been with them for a month but I have been with them for approx 4/5 yrs on PAYG... Should I try and max the minutes and text this month on my simplicity so they give me a better deal? or would they take that into account?

please help with advice! I would 'thank' everyone who does.

    Hi all

As an o2 select customer (even though I've never paid over £40 pm), I pay about £26 (inc VAT) for 400 mins, 500 texts on 18month. I've had very few issues over the years - but they've always been dealt with in a great way. Any handset problems, a new one arrives next day and is swapped - and I haven't got insurance!!

Contract due to end August. As a select, you can upgrade 3 months before.

Was a toss up between Nokia N95 8Gb and SE W890i (Been Sony for last 4 years). The only downside of the N958Gb was the bulk - but all the extra features and the Symbian OS clinched it.

Talking to upgrades, I was offered new N95 8Gb for £150 or refurb for nothing - no deals.

Retention however (you HAVE to play the PAC code card) impressed yet again:-

    Now on Online 30
    18 months
    400 minutes
    1000 texts
    free o2 to o2 calls
    unlimited data
BRAND NEW N95 8Gb inc Spiderman 3 the movie!!
£27.50 pm INCLUDING VAT (made a point of confirming this twice).

To me, this seems a pretty good deal ????????
