  • Does anyone have a step by step guide how to get the best deal from O2 for their retentions?
I am eligible for an upgrade from tomorrow and while I have read the very good and large threads about it, I am none the wiser towards my strategy - i.e. should I act dumb and see what the offer, play hardball and ask to be put through to cancellations, or a mixture of both.

Can someone advise what they did, and whether it worked for them?
    Cheers

I've always found that the best way to get the best deal is to start off by asking your network what is the best deal they will give you, if you are a low end user and rarely go over your inclusive mins or txts chances are they will offer you similar to what you already have. After they have made you an offer shop about online and see what other networks are offering and keep a copy of these offers. Phone your network back and tell them you have seen these offers and see if they can match it, if they cant then ask them for your PAC Code, they will say O.k and say they will give this to you. (Dont think oh crap at this stage) a few days later you should recieve a call from your network with a better offer. Always be polite to the customer service team, they will want to keep you as there customer than lose you to somebody else. Moneys better in there company than a rival.
  • Firstly - the upgrade centre has very little power in giving you freebies. Don't get upset if they can't offer you anything.

Have a little chat, tell you you want to stay with O2 but you've seen a better offer with <other network>.. eventually ask for your PACS.

Hopefully, you will be transfered to the retention department, who have lots of power to give you stuff.

At this point, decide what package you want and quote the price from <other network> for a similar package. I normally refer to the Three.co.uk website as they've got the most minutes for the price.

Ask how much they can do X package for (they'll have certain discounts per package). Then be cheeky and ask for the next best package for the same price. If they say yes, tell them it sounds good, but you'll have to have a look around and a chat in store with <insert network>.. is there anything else they can throw in (headset, free bolt on etc)...

Be cheeky, you can always walk away.

    Good luck!

    hi,
busy looking into getting an upgrade, bought it via O2 cpw originally, but deciding to go with O2 direct this time.
I am in the last 30 days of my contract, and pay £35 a month for 200 mins, 250 texts. But, I never go over my allowance, do you think they would give me a good phone on around £25-30 a month?
I'm looking at the SE P1i, SE W960i and the more expensive Xda orbit 2. Would like a touchscreen for a sat nav application, and a better than normal calendar/organiser for planning.

Note: I do need a phone, mine got stolen last weekend :(, otherwise i would go for sim only

I think you would get 200 mins and 400 texts on for £15 pm with a good phone if you state your case and know your stuff - Like I did.

Read through this thread for some good tips and good luck!

I've got the P1i and its a great phone, have installed TomTom on it and works a charm with an external GPS.

My boyfriend has rushed into upgrading his phone as he wanted the n95 and wouldn't wait for me to check out this thread and ring O2 for him. It's his second year with them and they gave him 600 mins/1000 texts with a free unlimited web browsing bolt on for £35 a month on an 18 month contract. He didn't ask for his pac or anything - the phone arrived on 15th April - is it worth me ringing up to say were' not happy with what he was offered or is it too late now?

i'm so angry with him as I'm convinced he could have got a better deal...

Im with o2 business and i too have the same contract as your OH, although when i phoned i also asked for free texts at weekends as well as the 1000 texts which i got. however since I have been with them for some time my monthly bill only comes to 28.06 as theygive me a discount for being a long term customer
your OH could ask for a discount for staying with the company

I've just rang and although we are ouitside the cooling off period, they have knocked £5 per month off the tariff, which I reckon is pretty good...

Now I just need to sort my own upgrade out in a few weeks time!
  • Today I phoned up for the first time to get an upgrade.
Currently I am on 200mins and 500txt for £30 on a 12mth contract. The contract ends in exactly a months time (i.e. I phoned up the first day I was eligible to).
I have went over my usage probably half of the months but not by much, except for two or three where i was in the mid £40 range.
I have been with O2 for one year on a contract, but 2 years before that on PAYG.

I spoke to the guy and stated that I was looking to see what contracts he would offer me (I stated that I am struggling to pay my current contract, but that is a lie).
He mentioned Simplicity, but I refused as I said I wanted a new phone (a Nokia N95 or Samsung G800 that I've promised it to my mum) then he offered me two contracts:
    200mins 400txt for £25
    400mins 1000txt for £30

I refused both of these and told him that i was going to have to shop around.
From reading this forums I was kind of expecting to be offered a lot better deals.
What should my next step be as these are just normal user tariffs not retentions?

Ideally I am looking for my free phone and a contract (willing to go to 18mths) of around £15/20 for ~400mins 600txt with no other extras.

    Can anyone advise?
    Cheers
