    Whats the O2 open scheme?
It's a discount scheme for employees (and their friends/family) of companies that have a big corporate contract with O2.

    From another forum:
    The Deal

O2 Open offers discounts on mobiles from O2. You can use the scheme up to six times per year, and can extend the benefit to friends and family.

    O2 Open gives you:

30% of all the monthly tariffs you’ll find in O2’s retail stores (including the Apple iPhone)
£20 off any Pay and Go phone, costing over £80
    20% off accessories

    Please note the following exclusions:

O2’s SIM only deal ‘Simplicity, XDAs, PDAs and Blackberries are excluded
The 30% discount on the Apple iPhone applies to the monthly tariff only, not to the purchase price of the iPhone itself (where this applies)

my upgrade is due in next few days and im seeing o2 retentions have stopped giving good deals. talk about timing for me! i realy hope they start giving good deals or i am stumped!
  • I'm in a similar position, into my upgrade period and they are offering nothing.

Called retentions yesterday to asked them to match a deal I'd found elsewhere. They didn't even ask what handset it was just straight out "No, we can't get near that". They were £13 more expensive, offered to reduce by £5 - this is the full price for the £35 tariff when done online so I could have done this myself.

I've requested my PAC code which I'm waiting for and am looking at moving to either Virgin or Vodaphone. Neither offer the handset I was after (N95 8gb) so unless I can pick one up reasonable elsewhere and go SIM only I need to start looking at phones all over again.

O2 really seem to think that customers just won't be bothered to leave.

Well, I hope things don't stay this way, otherwise I'll be wishing I'd taken the last deal for 24 months instead; the extra 6 would have cost £70 (£20 a month less £50 credit to the account, even with a phone).

Only reason I didn't was I hoped for O2 Broadband to arrive in this exchange, and have a chance to add it sooner. But now I don't think it's going to happen.

If I was looking right now, I think I might go for their 24 month at £25, with 600 minutes, web bolt-on, no text messages, credit for no phone. But on the other hand it's only a bit cheaper than Simplicity, and with any luck things would improve again in the next couple of years.

Just been on phone to o2 retentions to see if they would match the vodafone (12 month) sim only deal of 600 Min's & unlimited texts for £15 p/m, but they didn't want to know, was wondering if anyone has managed to get them to match this deal???

I've just 'upgraded' after being on Online 35 for 18 months. I've gone on to Simplicity 15 (300 mins/600 texts plus unlimited O2 to O2 calls).

However - I had the unlimited web bolt on for free on my previous tariff. Their upgrade FAQs on the website state "If you choose a new tariff, all your current Bolt On choices will remain on your account."... so I pushed for keeping my web bolt on, and after a bit of fuss I got it! Very very pleased indeed!

I have just come to the end of an 18 month retention deal where I had the off-line 200 minutes and 200 texts with free web bolt on for £25 pm discounted to £15 and £180 credit on my account. I selected the option "thinking of leaving" and told retentions that I wanted similar minutes/texts/web but wanted to pay about £10 pm. I use more minutes than texts so I wasn't interested in the simplicity 10 tariff with 150 minutes and 300 texts without a bolt on. All they would offer me was the online simplicity 15 with 300 minutes and 600 texts and free o2 to o2 calls which I didn't need and they said that the bolt on couldn't be changed. Although 600 texts is far too many for me (100 would be enough) I was prepared to go onto this tariff if they would change the bolt on to web which they finally did after some persuasion. I'm still paying the same as before, have more minutes/texts and I've got my web bolt on back and I'm not tied in to a 12/18 month contract. If something better comes along then I have the option to leave or try and negotiate a better deal with o2. I also have o2 broadband but they wouldn't offer any discount on that or the PAYG mobile broadband dongle either.

I opted (for the time being) for the £45 tariff reduced to £35 per month with a Blackberry 8900 Curve. Will see how I get on with the phone and take it from there...
