I'm in the last month of an 18 month contract and have been with them for about 6 years. I hate to say it but they really are playing hard ball now and it's teed me off. I called up to see what they are offering and if, like me, you use smartphones for business purposes and are after something new then the answer is NOTHING! Apart from the ridiculously overpriced and not-so-practical iPhone, of course. I didn't pursue the Blackberry/XDA route as they're too large for me..

Oh and they can't even offer a discounted monthly line rental anymore. I was on a £40 one (which I was browbeaten into taking in the first place!) discounted to £25 a month but they can't offer me anything except simplicity. I said I could get this from a cashback website so had no incentive to take it from them directly (i.e. could they shave some money off the £20 a month) but they just didn't care...

What did we do, o2?
I'm going to be moving on...

    Hi

Have been with 02 for 7-8 years now and have always managed to get a good deal out of them!

Rang up today and was offered:

    Free Reconditioned Blackberry 8900 curve
    500 mins
    600 msgs
    Unlimited internet bolt on
    All for £25 p/m for 18mth and then £30 for 6 mths on a 24 mth contract!

Im gutted - thats such a bad deal I feel I am about to change networks or get an iphone?

Has anyone got a good deal recently?

Also has anyone got the 02 Xda Ignito - I was told it has been discontinued - is this true?

    thanks

Well maybe now the new Iphone 3Gs has been released, their retention deals may get better, one hopes...

Jeez, I upgraded in Feb, NEW BB 8900, 600 min, 1000 text, BB bolt on, broadband - £20/month on 18 month contract. My how the deals have gone!

Ignito is the HTC Touch Diamond so will most likely be replaced by the Touch Diamond 2. I've got the orig and it's great, bought it offline though as o2 wanted £100 extra at the time.

I'm so glad I made a decision and upgraded, was tempted to hang around for a better phone...
  • Hi, I'm after some advice if anyone wouldn't mind helping me please. My 18 month Online 25 contract expires in mid August so I will eligible to upgrade my handset in just under a month's time. I went through retentions for my current contract, getting a £10 monthly discount (meaning I pay £15 per month, including the standard O2 to O2 unlimited calls bolt-on), a top-grade refurbished Sony Ericsson K850i, and cashback (I can't remember how much). After reading this thread it's apparent that O2 are no longer giving any decent offers at all so what can I realistically expect to get from retentions this time around? I actually want to get an iPhone but I know that these are excluded from any retentions deals, so I plan to get a decent renewal deal and then flog my new and existing handset to get the iPhone on PAYG (and using my contract Sim). I'm not bothered about getting more free minutes/texts but the web bolt-on would be handy. So what do you think I should expect?

Can't help with the retentions but think you'll have a problem trying to use your contract sim in a PAYG iphone. They don't work like other phones, plus you won't have free access to the internet on your sim either.

Why not just get an iphone on contract instead if your current contract is about to expire. Would be much simpler, plus I imagine cheaper too ;)

  • bloody hell, I'm glad I upgraded a month ago! I got

    Blackberry Curve 8900
    400 mins
    unlimited texts
    unlimited internet
    £15 for 18 months!

  • Really? A contract sim won't work in a PAYG iPhone? Can anyone confirm this is true? I understand that I won't get free Internet but I could add the bolt-on for £7.50 (or whatever it costs) and if I get a similar contract renewal price then this will still be a lot cheaper than an iPhone tariff. Plus I will have a spanking new handset to sell (towards the cost of the iPhone).
  • You'll have no problem using your O2 sim in the iphone, I've done it and will be doing with mine.

I think with the way O2 have gone is to expect nothing, and then anything you do get will be a bonus. I'm really glad I got my contract sorted a few months ago!
