Well, for whatever it´s worth, I just wanted to share my "frustration" with o2.
My monthly bills are in the GBP 100 - 150 range and I was told I´d be eligible for an upgrade now, if I wanted to. Asked the "Upgrade Team" for an offer for the new iPhone but they couldn´t offer me anything. Just the regular tariff/purchase price any new customer can sign up to at the moment. So no "special incentive" at all for me, at least not with the iPhone. Just sent them an email asking for the PAC and will now start looking around for a nice deal somewhere else.
Please, don´t get me wrong, if o2 do not want to make any special offers for the iPhone, then that´s their business decision and they can do whatever they believe is in the best interest of the company. I am just surprised that they let their so-called "Gold customers" walk away so easily without even TRYING to keep them.
Maybe I should look into buying Telefonica shares! Business must be booming if they don´t need to look after their high paying customers, anymore! ;-)

Wow...seriously frustrated with O2 now. Last week was offered 2000 txt, 500 mins on a 24 month contract sim only for £25 but was offered a free juggler ("worth £300" - looked on the internet and saw they were actually only c£150).
Phoned up tonight to see if I could be offered anything different and was offered 400 mins, 1000 txt, unlim internet for £25 pm on 18 months with £150 credit. A couple of months ago I could have got that for a £15 a month contract...ARGH.
I questions about the fact I could get a Simplicity deal offering 800 mins, 1600 txt and unlimited web for £19.58 on 1 or 12 month contract she said she couldn't do anything as the rules have changed since the 1st June.
Considering I'm also a broadband customer of theirs paying £17.50 a month, I wasn't too happy with that. See seemed like she's experienced all this before...and from looking at other posts and forums there seems to be quite a few angry O2 customers.
O2 buy a vowel and get a clue!!!0 -

Surely O2 must be losing loads of money by playing hardball for retentions?
People will be jumping ship like there is no tommorrow and some like me will not bother with contracts at all. I'm just going to use payg sims instead. Luckily I'm a very light user so I won't be too hampered and the sooner the rest of the population realises that 20 years ago we could all manage without a mobile the better.
Wondering how many months it will take for O2 to reverse this policy, I reckon August or even July.0 -
ok so here's my story ...
been on the Simplicity Online £15 sim-only deal for 16 months now usually spending about £20 a month with data usage, extra calls etc.
Fancy moving back to a contract and the Nokia 5800 caught my eye.
Tried upgrades but the usual "could only offer the same as a new customer" so they transferred me to retentions.
After a quick look at my account they almost instantly came back with:
Free Nokia 5800
18 month contract
400 mins
1000 txts
02 to 02 calls bolt-on
Unlimited Data bolt-on
£25 per month (£5 discount from £30 tariff).
I asked if they could do anything extra if I signed up for another 12 months on my existing 02 broadband (currently in rolling 30 day notice period) but was offered the same £2.50 reduction I was already offered when I tried the 02 broadband dept directly.
I know a couple of months ago this deal was being bagged at £18-£20 which I probably would have snapped their hand off if they had offered it now but back then I wasn't in a position to re-commit.
I left it there and didn't ask for my PAC as to be fair the service with the mobile & b/band has been fine and don't really want to move and lose the £5 b/band discount as a mobile customer so offer has been placed on file for 7 days etc.
Just really frustrating as the 5800 is not one of the newest phones anymore and there are other deals around such as Vodafone who are offering more mins & ultd data for £35 a mth with 10 mths half-price averaging the same as the O2 offer at £25 but I would lose the b/band discount etc...
Will probably have another crack at retentions to see if a better deal is put forward and hope I can still get the above offer after 7 days if all else fails ...0 -
What exactly is O2 doing?!! The range of phones now is terrible as well! For instance, I've always had Nokia's and like them, but O2 now only have a choice of 5!

4 of these are ancient, with only the 5800 being a fairly new phone. They've even stopped offering the N96 and no sign of the new N97 coming. Or any new phone for that matter. What's going on? Are they trying to go out of business on purpose?Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Lets put things into context here.
What exclusive phone has O2 got? The iPhone. What O2 exclusive new phone is out in June? Surprise surprise, the iPhone 3Gs (or whatever its called). Bit of a co-incidence that the new iPhone is out in June and that there has been a policy change??
I am sure that there is a shed load of people who will clamber onto the new iPhone boat, and pay full whack for it.
Fast forward a few thoughts on cash, bottom line profit, new contracts (I've known a few people to have several contracts, because they wanted the latest "free" phone).
If the forecasted new contracts for the iPhone 3Gs is going to outweight the profit you would get from discounted retention deals, why on earth would any business offer discounts knowing full well that they will be on course for profits for the quarter or the year? By not offering retentions deals, they are maximising their income. Why would they spend more money to make less when they have a cash cow in front of them with the iPhone?
In the big picture, O2 have got the right business model, they are guaranteed business, so they are maximising the opportunity. If you had the chance to maximise your income, wouldn't you go for it? However, in x months time, we all know that once the new iPhone hype has died down, that retentions deals will be red hot again. This maybe a month, 2 months or 2 years. Who knows what the business plan is? Whatever it is, I hope they revert back to good retentions before my O2 contract runs out!
And no, before you ask, I dont work for O2, I work for another major retailer who work on the same principles of getting customers in through the door.0 -
my contract ends july, called retentions tonight to cancel, they asked why i said orange has a better deal for what i'm paying and for the phone i want, i'm currently paying £35 pm for 600m + unltd texs, wanting the samsung omnia hd, no offer was made for me to stay so just told them to send me pac, i have 2 contracts from them so i'm not pricking around with them !!!!ers, i'm off to orange, oh and you normally get better deals thru 3rd parties dunno why tho, and carphone warehouse aint as good as they once were either0

Same deal on 02 simplicity is £20 per month (30 day contract).
If your locked into a 18month deal, thats a whopping £270 you will pay extra for the period.
If your locked into a 24month deal, thats a silly £360 you will pay extra.
So, if you can buy the handset you want as PAYG for less than £270, then go with the 30day simplicity, and then chop and change across the networks as newer deals come out.
I like the T-Mobile Solo 'fixed' deals, you pay £20 p/m for unlimted texts, 600mins & unlimited internet, but any other calls (0870, 0800, 0845 etc) come off a PAYG balance.
Ideal if you lose your phone on a night out etc.0 -

Agreed, it seems O2 are able to make money even though a good proportion of their customers take their business elsewhere. Bully for them, because we MoneySavers won't show them any sympathy either when it comes to deal-seeking. :P0
