Hey guys
I am planning to go into simplicity. was wondering how much you think i would get for unlimited internet and texts and some good amount of mins?0 -
I'm due to upgrade next week. I really want an iphone, but as with many of you I haven't been offered a retentions deal for this so will need to pay full whack. I've been with o2 for 7 years now and they've always managed to offer me a good discount before.
Having read what people have been saying - that the retention deals have gone shoddy, I'm wondering whether my next suggestion is clever now! here goes.
Are there any good deals on highly priced phones (e.g. Blackberry) that would be worth trying to knock o2 down on the cost of the phone/contract (anyone with any experience of this lately?), sell Blackberry, having a lower priced contract plus unlimited web access (so really I'm talking about knocking them down from the £35 per month 18 month contracts). Then buy the iphone on PAYG and save yourself a few bob? I read somewhere in the thread that you cant use a contract sim in a PAYG iphone but I see no reason why this would be the case?
Anyone who has any advice before I'm due to upgrade - tis much appreciated:T
2008-2011: £23k of wins
2011 best win: my wedding ring
2012 best win so far: iPad 2!!!! Holiday to Austria (given to family member) :j also £100 & 2 wine cases
Thank you so much, all posters

Lets put things into context here.
What exclusive phone has O2 got? The iPhone. What O2 exclusive new phone is out in June? Surprise surprise, the iPhone 3Gs (or whatever its called). Bit of a co-incidence that the new iPhone is out in June and that there has been a policy change??
I am sure that there is a shed load of people who will clamber onto the new iPhone boat, and pay full whack for it.
Fast forward a few thoughts on cash, bottom line profit, new contracts (I've known a few people to have several contracts, because they wanted the latest "free" phone).
If the forecasted new contracts for the iPhone 3Gs is going to outweight the profit you would get from discounted retention deals, why on earth would any business offer discounts knowing full well that they will be on course for profits for the quarter or the year? By not offering retentions deals, they are maximising their income. Why would they spend more money to make less when they have a cash cow in front of them with the iPhone?
In the big picture, O2 have got the right business model, they are guaranteed business, so they are maximising the opportunity. If you had the chance to maximise your income, wouldn't you go for it? However, in x months time, we all know that once the new iPhone hype has died down, that retentions deals will be red hot again. This maybe a month, 2 months or 2 years. Who knows what the business plan is? Whatever it is, I hope they revert back to good retentions before my O2 contract runs out!
And no, before you ask, I dont work for O2, I work for another major retailer who work on the same principles of getting customers in through the door.
Good post. It will be interesting to see if they do revert to doing the deals if they see a lot of long term customers migrating to the competition. I suspect they will in a few months.0 -

I rang O2 last month and just asked for my PAC code, none of this upgrade malarky, they asked why and I said Vodafone have made me a great offer and I don't think they could beat it, now Vodafone hadn't made me an offer I just made it up. She then said she could do
free Blackberry Curve 8900
400 anytime/network minutes
unlimited texts
unlimited blackberry internet
unlimited o2 to o2 calls
£15 for 18 months.
I then sold the Blackberry for £300 to a work colleague. Happy days!:beer:0 -

I know
I rang yesterday to change the Blackberry to the iphone data tariff and the girl I spoke to was shocked I got 3
I really can't fault O2 over anything, I've been with them years, only thing I could complain about is I gave the Blackberry I upgraded with to my sister and a month later the speaker starts to play up, so I rang up and they directed me to the Blackberry guys who said I'd have to send it off. I wasn't happy with that so emailed the chief exec of O2, complained, got a call from a lady in customer relations who then arranged for a replacement to be sent to me, I then send the other one off. Superb service really.:beer:0 -
BBB - thanks for your response, most useful and I know what to say now
My bills are generally quite low (£20 odd) so probably wont get one that is quite so good but definitely worth a try just straight out asking for the PAC code. That Blackberry curve is the one I am thinking of as it goes for around £250-300.
When you say upgrade from BB to iphone internet tariff, is this quite expensive to do?
Did you get a PAYG iphone then (take it the sim worked ok!)2008-2011: £23k of wins

WOW!
Was astounded when I thought I'd just check on here about O2's lack of any form of customer retention... I thought it was just me and someone from O2 who'd had a bad day.
My story doesn't seem to be that different from anyone else's on here, I was on O2 15 SIM only and O2 to O2 talk unlimited which worked at £14.68 p/m - I was using a battered old Nokia something... 5310 perhaps... anyway, my sister in law was on a similar deal and because she changed hers maybe a month or two ago for a Nokia 5800, including free internet access for £20.00 p/m I thought I'd do likewise.
I'd obviously left it a bit too long because when I called up O2's retention people at 5pm they were adamant that they would only offer me the 5800 on around £25.00 p/m and without the free internet access, initially I was really annoyed with the girl at the other end and while didn't raise my voice to her did let her know that I was extremely displeased and that since I'd been a customer with them for around 10 years I wasn't happy.
I looked online afterwards and found that Vodaphone do a 5800 on a 100 minutes talk / 500 texts for £15.00. I called them spoke to an operator and managed to get a deal that for £20.00 would include the unlimited internet access. The operator was going to call me back once I had re-called O2 back to cancel my deal with O2 (which I have done now, because again O2 couldn't get a better deal instead offered loads of minutes which I just won't use for the £25.00)... anyway, Vodaphone never did actually call me back - that was an hour and a half ago now - is this a sign of their shoddy customer service?
Oh, and I was going to get 2 phones, on for the missus and one for me... anyone got any ideas / help? I only really want to spend about £20.00 p/m max, and I'm going to mail the Chief Exec of O2 a bit later, but I don't know what that'll do.
I'm not bothered about keeping my old number too much and don't mind leaving O2 that much (even though I'm a share holder - doesn't seem to mean much any more!)
Thanks in advance :beer:0 -
Really strange. I talked with O2 retention and only deal available was simplicity and 25 pounds having only 400 minutes. He suggested me to take the simplicity deal which is of no use. I might go to other network after 5 years.......0
