I'm happy with my Sony Ericsson w880i and the last time I renewed my contract with O2, I managed to reduce the monthly bill from £30 to £19.50 for 400 min / 1,000 text per month and get the w880i thrown in.
Since I'm currently unemployed, having a shiny new toy... err phone, is not a priority when my existing one does the job. Can get an O2 sim-only simplicity deal for £15/m (300min/600texts) but wondering if I got a free upgrade, which I could then flog BNIB, I could effectively get my monthly cost down further by signing up to another 18 month contract. If so, what models are currently most desirable? Having said that, I can get £100 cashback if I jump ship and go over to get a monthly contract with Orange... options, options.
Has anyone managed to get better terms for switching to Simplicity by saying they want their PAK code? Ta.0 -

I've been with o2 on contract for about 6 years. I've never negotiated a deal just took what was offered.
Currently get 200min and 200text with Sony Ericson W910i for £25p/m on 18month contract plus £5p/m insurance (that I've never used but hate to tempt fate - can I do away with this?). The phone is awful, I've been counting down to my upgrade for months. ANY internet access and the bill jumps up by £20+
My upgrade letter came yesterday, called them up and after a £20min conversation was more confused and had no offer?
Me: I've received my upgrade letter.
o2: Ok, I'll just check. No, you're not due and upgrade until 10th June.
Me: But I've got a letter....
o2: A letter..... I'll just check. Yes, you have. I'm not sure why. I'll have to overide the system to do it.
Me: ok.
o2: You are on an old tarrif, you'll need to change it and that should reduce the internet bill.
Me:Ok, what are the options?
o2: Well that depends on which phone you want.
Me: What phones can I have?
o2: Depends on which tarrif you go for
(can you see the loop forming?)
o2: What about a SIM only tarrif? That what I'm on and it's fine...
Me: But my handset is on it's last legs....
o2: But Simplicity will be very cheap....
Me: Yes it may be, but with a non functioning phone it won't be much use will it?
o2: *than starts rambling a load of shortcuts, O2 treats etc at me*
Me Mmmm Hmmm
o2: Can I intrest you in O2 broadband.
Me: I already have it.
o2: Ok, Can I help you with anything else today?
At this point I gave up. Was I just unlucky in the operater I got?
Where do I go from here? Handset I'm torn between the Nokia 5800 and the iphone, but am leaning more towards the nokia. Looking online at tarrifs the equivianlt to what I am currently on 200min 400 text 98p p/d capped (fair usage) data is £24 in store/£19.58 online with a £48.93 charge for the phone.
What should I be pushing for an how? Obviously, if I had more inclusive minute and data/internet wasn't costing me and arm and a leg I'd use my phone more.

Forget what is on offer - what do you want? Want an iPhone? You'll pay at least £35 a month. You might get some freebies, but they won't reduce the tariff.
Want the Nokia 5800? Well.. that will certainly mean you'll be able to get discounts on your tariff. From this thread, it sounds like you could go for that phone with 600 minutes + 1000 texts + internet on phone for £20 a month. Also ask them if they can reduce your O2 broadband - they gave me a years free access (worth £90 to me).
Find an O2 tarrif you like (forget the price) and ask what they can do it for. I'm on a £35 tarrif with a £15 monthly discount.
TELL THEM.. don't expect them to offer you stuff. Your 'loop' is caused by your own indecisiveness.0 -
Hi,
I am due to upgrade soon, and I am planning on the sim only deal with hopefully some discount
On the Simplicity deal for £20 you get,
600 xnet mins
1200 texts
and you can get a free bolt on, which to you the unlimited web bolt on sounds like it would be useful.
I realise you want a new phone, but if you used your own/or buy a new one when you can, this could be a good option??
You need to speak to Retentions, they are the ones that can offer the better deals, I've done this with o2 the past few years. Customer Service will only offer the normal type deals.
Hang in there and try again, and you should get summit to suit you.:beer:0 -
Breakineven, it sounds like you didn't speak to retentions.
Call 202 and choose the option "I'm thinking of leaving O2"
When I did it on sunday they didn't even ask me if I was thinking of leaving, they just whipped on the £20/mo 600mins/1000txts unlimited internet with nokia 5800 deal as soon as I asked about the phone.0 -

Hi,
Is that an 18 month deal? Was the phone free?
The BlackBerry bolt on is e mail/internet use up to a fair usage policy,
Did you ask for o2 to o2 calls?? I reckon you would get it if you haggle hard enough, think people on here have had that deal.
