  • The guy wasn't helpful.

I requested the Nokia E71, 600mins, 1000text, web-bolt on for £20 since it was previously offered to me (had to wait 20 days for simplicity to upgrade) and he said "I'm unable to do that, only for £25 for 18 months"!

He isn't going to budge. I will have to ring and hopefully speak to another operator another day...

My contract is up for renewal from today, so I called and the first person I spoke to basically offered me the online standard deals with no discount whatsoever, and called again and got offered the following:

    600 minutes
1000 texts (possibly unlimited, can't remember)
    Unlimited internet
Blackberry Curve 8900 or Bold 9000 (both brand new)

£20/18 months (it actually works out to something like £19.50 after VAT cut)

That's basically what I wanted as I'd seen others on the thread offered it, although I was surprised I was offered a new Blackberry Bold 9000 as others had been offered reconditioned at that price?

Now I just have to decide whether to keep the Blackberry (I choose the 8900 but if I choose to sell will swap for a 9000 as that is worth more) or sell and save up for a Samsung Omnia HD!

Ashok, You omitted to say what your monthly fee was, and also what the monthly fee is now, and the contract length.

Are you sure it's not £5/month after your £100 credit?

Yep the guy said it was effectively free.

    I got the letter through.

    75 mins
    250 texts
    18 month contract
    £5/pm line rental
£84.xx bill credit (£100 after vat?)

I have been with o2 since the genie days of 2000/2001 so I'm pleased that they could offer me something back so to speak.

    hopefully they'll give me that.

At the moment I'm on a retentions deal from 18 months ago 400 mins 1000 texts for £20. I've only had a couple over by a £5 so I wonder if they'll give me that?

Sorry if I'm repeating something that has been said already but...

Just coming to end of an 18mth contract
    750 mins
    750 texts
£20 pm (this is a £15 pm discount)

iPhone 8GB is free on the £35 pm tariff

I called retentions and asked if I could have the same discount and was told a flat no. Apparently the tariff is set by Apple and they can't move on them.

Has anyone had a similar thing?

    Hi everyone,

Stumbled across this forum today...it's very useful - thanks for all the contributions!

My o2 contract is up for renewal (£35pm 600min/500txt although I don't use much of that).

I'm looking at the Nokia 5800 or Sony Ericsson c905 on the same tariff.

I've called retentions a couple of times and have been offered the following:

    600min
    1000text
    unlimited web

    for £25 p/month with the Nokia 5800
    or £30 p/month with the SE c905.

I've seen a few posts with people getting this deal on both of these handsets for £20 - is this still possible? Did anyone who got this deal have to haggle a lot and call a few times?

Maybe my usage is too low - should I hold out for £20 or just accept £25/30?

    Thanks for your advice..

Just an update - I called again today and was offered the c905 for £25/mth or the Nokia 5800 for £20. Went for the Nokia. 600mins/1000txt and unlimited internet.

The real irony is that my brother's contract is also expiring and he was offered much better deals straight away as he has gone over the £35/mth a few times, but I pay his phone bill every month!

Anyway, I'm happy with my deal. Thank you all for your advice.

    Sam
