the tihng was that the guy was quite happy to hand me over the phone there and then without me signing anything and without him even knowing or telling me what my line rental would be.

it's a total joke that they jump into bed with big companies and offer staff discounts. but the discounts are pointless as any tom !!!!!! and harry can phone retentions and get a better deal than they are prepared to offer to these so called partners.

it's made even worse by the fact that through cash backs and quidco i can get a better deal on orange (who have better customer serivce imo and better reception where i live and work) as a new customer

Sounds like you have no choice but to go with Orange then? If it provides better reception and in your opinion customer service (I'm yet to experience that though), then go with Orange.

I really want the Blackberry Bold, upgrades have told me that they will offer it on £45 a month, 600 mins, 1000 txt and Blackberry Unlimited UK bolt on. I know I can get it for £35 a month online also with the option of switching to orange. Things is I've been told that if I wait until 29 March retentions can offer me a better deal than what upgrades are offering me now. Is it really worth me waiting until then or do you think I'll not get it battered down to under £35 a month? Cancelling my contract isn't a problem as they put me on one of those simplicity 30 day rolling contracts. Not bothered about changing my number either. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Sounds to me you've been misinformed. The £45 tariff comes with 1200 minutes, 1000 texts and Blackberry Bolt On. You have the option of a refurbished bold (if in stock) on the £35pm tariff, with 600min 1000txt with bb bolt on..

So, you could ask for a refurbished 9000 through upgrades, on the £35pm tariff?

Yeah MRC is right, the £45 contract is 1200 mins 1000 text and 1 free bolt on and the £35 contract is 600 mins 1000 text and 1 free bolt on. Blackberry Bold and Curve should be free on both of these contracts as a new customer...see below for what you could get on a retentions deal.

I upgraded 2 contracts on my account this past week:

    1) Online 35 - 600 mins 1000 texts
Free Blackberry Bold 9000 (reboxed unit)
    Unlimited O2-to-O2 calls bolt-on
    Unlimited blackberry data bolt-on
    £20/month (18 month contract)
£80 credit on account>> works out to £15.55 a month

    2) Online 35 - 600 mins 1000 texts
    Free Blackberry Curve 8900 (New)
    Unlimited weekend calls bolt-on
    Unlimited blackberry data bolt-on
    £25/month (18 month contract)

When is your contract actually end though? I've a feeling it might be the 29th March because I was told the same thing that they couldn't offer me a retention deal until my contract was actually finished, however I could upgrade a month early. But then the best deals aren't available.

Everyone can cancel their contract during the 1 month early upgrade phase. You can leave your 30 days notice when you can upgrade - Hence why you can get a retention deal 1 month before your contract expires. :T

So why was I told I couldn't get a retention deal until after my contract had actually expired? Is this totally untrue, and should I just try again?
