I've been with O2 for about 3 years now (2 x 18 month contracts averaging only about £20 per month) and this evening I called for an upgrade (asked about SE C902) and was told that I could have one on a normal 18 month £25 plan, so I said I'd seen better deals and asked for my PAC. Then I was put through to Retentions and again I asked for my PAC. Nice lady asked why I was leaving. I told them I'd seen a C902 deal for under £18-£20 from another operator. Within 2 minutes I was offerred:

    SE C902
    600 mins
    1000 texts
    free bolt-on
for £20 month instead of £35 (18 month plan)

I then asked about the better SE C905 handset and was first told "that might be not be avialable with this deal" but 2 minutes later got a "Yes" so that's what I've taken with 600 mins / 100 texts / web bolt-on for £20 per month. Only took about 15 minutes on the phone and the new phone should arrive by courier tomorrow.

Thanks to all who've shared their success stories. It really helps to have a good idea of what you can get before you phone.

Despite my being ready to upsticks and take my PAC code to another network, I'm still holding out for O2 and the 5800. (Probably thanks to some very persuasive people in Retentions, doing a good job guys ;) ). I'll wait until next week now and see what happens.

For the O2 people that post here, anyone know when O2 will be getting the SE W705? Its on the Mobile Guide section of the O2 site, but not available yet. A couple of third party sites have it for pre-order. I guess its coming soon? May be looking at that, I really like SE's but the C905 is just huge, however the W705 seems to tick the boxes.......
  • I'll have a look tomorrow if I get chance bagand. I've not heard anything of it though and I haven't noticed it on our devices website, saying that I've not been on the SE page for a while.

  • Thanks dbramley! That was the kind of info I needed too! Never dealt with retentions before, so I didn't know if there was some kind of game you have to play with them to get the best deals. Sounds very open and honest to me though, so far!

My renewal date is 10th March, so I'll be reporting back just as soon as I've had a chance to call them!

Please help with my newbie retentions questions! I asked similarly here a while ago but no-one replied so I've not called them :(

What's the cheapest deal I might get a Blackberry Bold with free internet for? And what other companies/persons deal should I quote to get it? (been paying £30 for a few years now without bothering upgrading) I've seen 600xnet for £20/month mentioned, but I hardly ever use it to call and 100 minutes would be plenty, perhaps 200 tops, if this meant I could get it for cheaper (I really need to save money).

Or would I be better just to go for the cheapest 18 month +150 credit no phone deal and risk spending the £280ish on ebay for a phone instead?

Finally would the normal web bolt on be cheaper and/or easier to get than the instant Blackberry email one? (I use webmail and wouldn't need or want emails pushed through so I'm thinking just the normal one would be ok - if I'm missing something here please let me know). Thanks! Glyn

Just as a guide, I phoned and got a new Blackberry Bold for £24.27 per month, 18 month contract - 600 mins/1000 txts plus free unlimited Blackberry Bolt-on, but I had to pay £48 for the phone. I'm happy with this, as I'm also a very low user and normally don't go over 200 mins.

I was going to go for the blackberry bold myself but checked the phone out in my local 02 shop and it was a bit too bulky, I went for the smaller blackberry 8900 for £20 per month 600 minutes,2000 texts , unlimited web 600 minutes for £20 so im happy as my simplicity contract was the same price and I average about 300 minutes a month

  • Ok I finally called retentions yesterday for the blackberry bold. I had previously been offered by upgrades, £35/month 18months, 600 mins, 1000texts unlimited internet data, £48.50 for handset.

For help on what to say to retentions. I just said that I'd been offered a few good deals from other networks like t-mobile. Then stated what tariff I wanted (the online 35) by looking at the 02 website and said a friend at work had been offered that for £20/month.

So like other people i have been offered £20/month for 18 months, 600mins, 1000 texts, unlimited internet data and a

Blackberry Bold (+£48.50 for handset) or
    Blackberry Curve 8900 (free).

This is a good offer and I am contemplating it but would like to move it a 12 months contract. Do you think it would be wise to ask 02 to move it to 12 months and for me to pay £30 a month instead? This way noone loses and I am happier.

    Thanks
  • I upgraded a couple of weeks ago to the Samsung Pixon with 600mins, 1000 texts and unlimited web bolt on for £24.50 a month. At the time they mentioned free broadband but I didn't really listen as we don't have a landline and are currently with Virgin for BB.

Earlier this week the OH tells me he is fed up with Virgin and is thinking about getting a BT line to have a better choice of provider! Typical! So I rang o2 back and mentioned they'd offered it free when I upgraded - they put me back through to retentions and I spoke to a lovely guy who said I could have their BB for free, but for 12 months only.

I upgraded to an 18 month contract initially - have others who've plumped for 18 month contracts been offered 12 or 18 months free BB? Don't get me wrong I'm very grateful to get offered BB for free at all but if everyone is getting the full 18 months free then I will give it a cheeky ask when I talk to them again next week!

12 months free BB is common offer on upgrades, I don't think you will get 18 months, I havn't seen any post reporting full 18 months free BB...
Anyway after payment holiday you would paying 7.34£/months which is very good anyway...
